I suggest the Letort cricket... Or maybe a black Madame X. Don't have any pics
well my friend is needing some for a trip to colorado.but he only has one,so i told him i would see if i could get someone on here to make them for him.the one he has is black foam stacked together with a green belly with legs.i will try to get the one he has to take pics of it
i make a grasshopper for gills havent tryed a cricket ill post ya a pic later tonight
ok cool man
I tie flies and have tied a lot of grasshoppers but I would need an "offical" name or picture to identify exactly what he wants to duplicate. Let me know if I can help. Steve
Someone had a nice cricket pattern a little while ago. I wish I could help but anything I tied would be novice at best. Never been very good at cricket or hopper patterns with any realism.
"Electric Cricket- FAOL"
That is a nice pattern though. Is it anything close to what your friend has?
also look for the klod hopper on FAOL, its a fairly easy pattern to tie. i had tried the electric cricket once but could never get the tubing to shrink and bend in the right way. mudbug, try posting a picture of the fly on here if you can, im interested in what thick cricket pattern looks like.
he is going to bring it to work tommorrow so i will put a pic on this weekend thanks guys
well what he called a cricket turned out to be a ant.so i think im going to try and make it myself.just ordered the materials to do it
did the ant have long hopper like legs?
its strange cause it has 8 legs which is 2 piecses of round rubber skirt material at the front in a cross and the same at the back.its black foam cut into a arrow shape with the point end at the back.and has a copper brown dubbing and thread under side
kinda hard to see but its laying on its side in the pic
now that is non the least an interesting specimen you have there mudbug, is it carrying a piece of cheese i really cant tell from here LOL
cheese:Dthe cheese be the strike indicator
I have bought cricket flies at BPS real sharp never used it though. If you have one near I suggest going to their fly shop and check them out. Check out the ants too.

Hey Mudbug,
Looks like a chernobel ant, in black, if you ask me. I make my cricket/grasshoppers for trout and gills with an orange yarn butt, then black or brown dry hackle, wrapped around some dubbing, the legs are turkey tail tied with a knot about 1/2 way down. Then the head is spun der body hair. It is killer until the head gets h2o logged, but then its a streamer that is pretty cool also.
This one has caught a few fish is why it looks a little ratty
Pat, those look killer, I am gonna have to try some of those patterns this spring
Nice ones Pat!
