I found a YouTube video of a guy using this stuff, and wondered if any of you have tried it.
(I did a 'search' and tho' several posts came up, none were about this material -)
It is a kind of gel used to build-up a body, and you can shape and blend colors.
In the video he is tying a kind of streamer fly, but I can maybe see this used for jigs too... you could put a fat belly in a jig, for example.

I've seen some of the guys over on Fly Tying that use some of the stuff, but have never heard any reports of how well it held up. To a trout here or there, but man if you got into the crappie I don't know.

Just go to a craft store and pick-up some of the fabric paint and try it.Easy to apply because of the thickness and can shape body with a tooth pick.I use it for smaller body jigs and have not tried it on a larger jig!!

I like the looks of those jigs! Does it dry quickly? I have seen some of those before and wondered how the heck they did that. Thought they were tearing apart tube jigs. Thanks for sharing, that is a neat idea.

Len, that stuff from the Craft Stores looks to yield the same results, and probably less expensive. EZ Shape is $3.89 for a 1-oz. bottle.

How does it hold-up under attacks from slabs?

It dries overnight and I put a coat of hard-as-nails over it.Just shape your body a little large because when drying it shrinks a little.Quote:

I have used EZ Sparkle for quite some time, Works well but you need to use several coats of Hard as Nails, And as far as fabric paint it is just that farbic paint.
Bought some paint at a craft store a couple of weeks ago, that looks like what you show, tried it body came out good. Gave the jig a water test, to see how it would hold up, but the body got sticky, after it was soaked in the water. Did you have this trouble, and is that the reason for the clear coat ?Quote:

I am gonna get the EZ shape stuff because I want to use it over the top of Mylar tubing for making Mustad minnows. Hard as nails will work to protect it, so will epoxy. Both will make it hard which is something I don't like on a jig/fly. If you just want to get a bulky body like that true something I have done for a while, colored hot melt glue sticks. Very tough but you really have to get the knack for keeping it round as it will drip off very easily until it starts to cool.
Will try the clear coat next time i try the paint, just thought i would try the paint to see how it worked. I have used sparkle brad in the past,for the body, which you can get in many colors, and like that because is easy to use, just wrap it like chennille, tie off and it's done.Quote:

Doesn't the clear coat defeat the purpose of the mylar tubing? I thought it was used because it made a soft body that was more like the fish biting into a minnow instead of a rock hard body?
