Jet Jigs
Well here is something a little new. My 9 year old son named them Jet Jigs, he has a good imagination but it fits them well.

They are all on the same jigs just different lengths of materials. The purple one's tail is hackle instead of marabou because I don't have a dark purple marabou but I think it turned out well. Maybe a little short but these are big jigs anyway. 1/8 #1/0 so they are not small jigs. I know, the bottom 2 need shorter bodies but I got it right on the top one. Of course it was tied last.
Now I only have 9 more to do, 3 of each in the same head color but 3 sets with the same body colors.
-
The ones with the longer tails are nice
-
I LIKE EM, and see know reason to shorten the bodies on any of them.
What kind of jig head is that ?
-

Hey Fish 4 all,
How are you doing the bodies ? Are you weaving the side veins or tying them on top of the chenile. How do those jig heads handle in the brush ? Looks like they won't hang as bad with that profile. What mold is that ? Lots and lots of questions !! I use to live in Brimerton,Wa. in the early 60's. Nice part of the country . Take care and keep the great jig ideas a coming !!
-
YeahI'm with Ifish what type molded head is that

As far as I know it is a custom made mold. I got the jigs from 1aB. The body is woven/crocheted.
As for how they handle brush, couldn't tell you, I haven't used them yet. Only had them a couple months and the lakes have just barely gotten gotten back into fishing shape. I hope to try them soon but not sure I will try these till spring or sumer when the fish are after a bigger bait. The longer tail ones are just under 3" and the jig head itself is 1.75 inches so not a cold water jig in my area.
-
Anyone else thing the body is too long, too short, tapered looks better, any other comments on it? If not then I am just gonna stick with a variety of body lengths and sizes.
-
Variety is the way to go with the tails.Mix them up and let the fish tell you what they want.

This is round 2 of the jet jigs. These have a fluorescent chartreuse with a green metallic floss for the body. The picture doesn't do the darker green justice but it really sets of the fl. chart.

whoaaaaaaaaaaaaa number 2 is going to be a killer...i was scrolling down and i seen it and i had to whip the droll off my face
-
Thank you. I will have a collection of them all in one place when done. Set 3 coming maybe tonight if I can decide on the next 2 colors. I think I am gonna have to make a matching set in a smaller size.
Oh and I found some awesome thread at Wal-Mart today. Really strong and in neon colors.

Fish 4 all,
I had a friend who said he took a class at UK in underwater basket weaving 101 and was wandering if you taught that class. Great job on the weaving.
-
i need him to weave me a blanket because it sure was cold this A.M. out on the water.......j/k fish4
-
These jigs are sweet and do like the colors.
Side Note - 1st Pict, 1st Jig... not sure on the crappie but with purple bucktail... the walleye guys would go nuts with that on Erie over the reefs in spring spawn! Bettin' that head style will give some good movement.

That is edition #3. I got a little wild on the tail of the purple head but I could not figure out what looked good so that is what I came up with. Is a little off the wall but I don't think the fish will mind.
Never done any basket weaving and my only crochet clothing was a scarf for my daughter so no blankets anytime soon. I would bet if you tied all my jigs together that you might have a warm if not prickly blanket. :D
One more set to do and then I will post new with my fighter squadron. Gotta figure colors out for that one, thinking red and white body and whatever color tails. Maybe Rainbow and Red metallic bodies with a lot of flash in the tails.
Attica, it isn't buck tail, it is hackle palmered around the hook and then intentionally laid back for the tail. It really flares up with even the slightest wind so I think it will move a ton in the water.
-
pink and white would be a hot color and i think purple and silver also
-
Nice Jigs, for sure, I would just hate to lose any
-
Wow, those are incredible. Those bright, fluorescent ones look amazing. Those heads look like they'd have some great darting action.
How did you learn how to weave those bodies? All the ones that have woven bodies look a little "caterpillarish" to me.
-
I learned to crochet them with hours and hours of finagling, fixing, modifying and testing. Took me forever to get them to look just right. I started with the tapered ones you see online but didn't like them. So I figured out hot to build the body up and make it look like I needed it to look.
Tying them on a jig head with a collar has made it so much easier than trying to build the entire body on a fly hook.

Well here is #4, the final of the set. Now I just need to get the smaller version of each one done. Will be a while though, have a lot to tie for others before hand.
