That is nice. Looks to me they worried more about their competition (Lowrance) and bass fishermen than they are us lowly crappie guys with gps response issues.
Just checked my account at humminbird no new software updates. ???
hays47,
The new software should be release to the public in 1 to 2 weeks.
I hope this resolves the problem. I personally am happy with every other aspect of my birds. Well I do have some interference issues with my 797. I have seen some posts about a kit you can get but have been afraid to do anything that might make it worse than it is already if I don't know what I'm do'n when I install it. Antbody have any luck with this "kit"?
Does this firmware release fix the screen refresh problem?

Cane I bet U $5.00 this HB update DOES NOT DO A THING FOR SLOW GPS go BACK & read Jody's responce-----all he says is that it will be avail in 1 to 2 weeks-- I tell U the only way to read a HB trained person is what they DON'T SAY!!!!! Never said a thing about GPS, see its still a BIG SECRET--- WHAT THEY ALSO DON'T TELL U IS THAT THE NEW lOWRANCE 16 CHANNEL RECEIVER SYSTEM REFRESH 5X TIMES A SECOND.

The refresh rate that you mention is for the 4000 antenna. Does the new internal antenna that comes with the HDS's refresh that quickly too? Don't think they do. The 5x antenna is an add-on...from what I have seen its gonna cost about $200.

Yes Drifter it costs about the same as the HB AS-GRHA which is the High accuracy GPS which is still only a 1X SLOW GPS System.
Wait...this all just went past me...there is a software update in 1 to 2 weeks for what? Is it the update to fix my refresh rate problem with my gps? Or is the 4000 antenna thingy for 200.00 going to fix my refresh rate problem? What is a 4000 antenna? Is that the same antenna I got with my unit? Or is any of what we are talking about even deal with the subject of the refresh rate problem. Can anyone clarify? Signed, Lost.
Initial post was for software update from HB (follow link). It basically addresses
the 2d graphics.
Discussion led us to get off topic and we started talking about the new GPS receiver from Lowarance that will update at the rate of 5x per second. No way are the two discussions related.
I followed the link, read the report - several thoughts come to mind.
First, the improved surface clutter feature - I wonder if the ends of the
scale have been swapped? Always seemed kinda funny to me for a filter
setting to have 1 be more, and 10 less...
Anyway, I realize first I haven't kept up with bass fishin' tech in years,
and second when I did, only saw my local area - BUT
bass guys usually had an indash flasher, maybe a flush mount flasher on
the bow and often didn't bother turning them on???
While crappie guys are practically electronics nerds by comparison.
So why do they get all the cool stuff/information first?
And I would think we stack up pretty well in numbers to bassers also.
But again, that is my narrow perspective.
Last, the talk of critics getting pre-release software to try out -
wonder why we don't? Are we not being critical ENOUGH?
Whatd'ya think Jaxsprat? :D
p.s. this add on better antennae is bull-hockey.
For a toy costing as much as a used vehicle, I'd think you'd
at least be given the option to upgrade/swap for the price
difference when new, instead of gettings swindled into upgrading
later and having your original for a paperweight.
Jaxsprat thinks there are two requirements for the job testing HB productsQuote:

1.) Youu have to be able to keep secret the new product --OK JWhite & jaxsprat pass that test
2.) when it comes to the test results well we may have a slight problem there cause JWhite & jaxsprat are tooooooo Honest!!!!!!!
we would tell them like it is...........................................:cool :
I believe we are the ASS behind the carrot stick fellers.....:o:o:o:o
Mr. Lewis,
The engineers here at Humminbird are always working constantly to improve various features and performance characteristics of the units; however, we don't know of any immediate software releases that will effect the GPS response time that you mentioned. I do know that similar feedback has been given to our engineering group and they do research issues highlighted by consumers.
Kind Regards,
Deborah
This was a Feb 10, 2009 response.
Jeff, You absolutely right about a crappie fisherman being far more knowledgeable than a bass fisherman about the electronics.
My nephew didn't know what that beeping on his sonar was until he ran aground.
Bass fishermen know how to run up and down the lake like idiots trying to find where to fish. I got birds eye view year round.
