There have been many threads about this. If you are trolling and trying to find a waypoint, there is a slow refresh rate on the screen.
This has been discussed on many threads on here
I have seen a lot of threads talking about a problem but havent seen the exact thing thats being talked about...i havent noticed anything like that with mine yet at any kind of speed
Luke, which model do you have? This "thing" only seems to affect
certain model numbers, and it isn't by any means the lower-end units.
In fact, seems like some of the older, cheaper units don't have "the problem".
I tried, best I could, to explain it on the post by Specwick here, close to
this one - reply #11 I think. Holler at me if you can't find it.
Want to make clear, I'm not bashing them, I like mine pretty good and
ain't gonna trade for awhile given what these things cost now.
But they do have some personality flaws that bother some folks,
and I've been known to get kinda short with a few folks who aren't
bothered with the problem and insist that it doesn't exist :)
Some folks don't notice it, some do.
Longline trolling, it doesn't bother me a bit. It's while spider-rigging, or
trying to get right on top of something to single-pole fish is when it
bothers me a little.
i have a 997SI unit on the console and a 957c on the bow interlinked using one antenna
Well, the 787,797 and 997 are the ones I've heard it most about -
I don't know many folks with the 957. Is that the big 8" screen without
side imaging?
The first two are what I have.
Like I said, some folks don't notice anything, and then some do but
get used to it and it's not a huge problem (Like me).
I called HB today to ask when the fix is supposed to be in. The person who answered the phone was very polite and ensured me that they are aware of the problem and that the software engineers are working on the software fix. When the fix will be available, don't know. They said they normally release software patches in the spring and late fall. But due to these units being "premium priced" units, just as soon as they can fully test the software fix and have fully rectified the issue, the software fix will be released. So, it could be tomorrow...... It could be this fall..... I am willing to bet the fix will be out within a month, but that is just my guess.
Cane:D :D :D :rolleyes:Quote:
Just think, some folks just don't have this problem that HB is gonna fix.
At least Humminbird is straight up with you guys and telling you they haven`t got a fix yet.
I wish Lowrance handled my freezing 510c this way, instead of having to send it back and forth with no real fix.
I don`t think Lowrance even tests their stuff anymore.
This is the way to handle problems.
I could have waited for Lowrance to find a fix. If they were looking for one?.
I jumped ship instead because they acted like they knew nothing about the problems my unit had.
They just threw different versions of software at it that never really fixed the problem.
Anything can have problems.
How problems are addressed is what counts.
They never admitted publicly they have a problem and never said they were gonna fix it.
Really just BS on an unofficial HB web site. We have been waiting a long time and nothing has been done about the refresh issue. Most of us can get around the fault, but "getting around" is not the issue at hand.
I ain't happy with either one of them (Lowrance or HB).
My laptop is far more complicated and costs far less than these sonar/gps units. On top of this, my laptop works lots better.
Sonar been around lots longer than laptops.
Manufs should have stuff working before putting it in the marketplace.
Rush to market (greed) causes most faults. Not acceptable in Tom's book.
Yes, I am a perfectionist when it comes to technology.
Tom, when paying the kind of money that we do, we should expect the unit to work well. I'm with you all the way.
I honestly can't imagine that the programmers couldn't come up with a fix for the GPS refresh right away if they wanted too. What might have happened is they figured out they could put a high accuracy puck on the market and sell the crap out of it, and then at some point down the road update the software.
Sounds like the HB Marketing Dept. is running the show.
I think most of this session has been covered on my thoughts so I won't pipe in. Just maybe a AMEN will do.
God Bless the freedom of speech!:D
I guess they are no better than Lowrance then.
The money we pay for these things we should get better.
To think I bought a 46" Sony flat screen TV that the whole family uses every day, for the same price that a 10" sonar cost.
You guys want to try a great graph check these out;
Vexilar - The Edge2 - Dual Frequency Depth Sounder
Vexilar - The Edge3 - Dual Frequency Color Depth Sounder
I have the Edge 2 really like it so far.
This is what I bought to replace my new x510c that I couldn`t live with.
Back to a working mono was a breath of fresh air believe it or not.
