'Sup with this ice?

My mom's in Danville and lost her power last night. (Brother's taking care of her, though.)

Hope the rest of you have power and are staying warm!

no power, but I do have a generator running most needed things around the house. Now if I could figure out how to connect my furnace to it I'd be in great shape. Any ideas?? It's gas so only needs 110 current.

Just got our power back on. We have a generator also so we had a fireplace insert and TV. A lot better off than some people. Worst ice damage I ever saw around this area.

I have relatives in West Ky. (Benton/Calvert City/Paducah/Possum Trot).. Finally got through on cell phone today. They are OK.. Worst storm in history for that area.

I live by Patoka Lake and we got pounded with ice and then it snowed 6 inches on top of that ice. Lost power to the house for 2 1/2 days. Now we can't get out until some of this ice and snow are gone, not sure when that might be. Good thing the wife and me are retired.

I live in Paducah and just got my power back an hour ago. The worst thing about it was the cell phones not working until today. Didnt know how my wife and kids were doing while i was working all day. Spent the past few days cutting trees from morning to night on the railroad i work for. Taking a long time to cut but we finally got a few trains moving from Paducah to Calvert City today. If anyone bought a generator make sure you save your reciept because i think you can get your all your money back on it through FEMA(i think thats what it is called).

so I think keeping those generators might be a smart move.

Sunday it is supposed to get above freezing. That may melt some of the ice, but the weakened tree limbs and power lines will still be here. Then, first couple of days of next week, we're subject to having snow & high winds. What the ice hasn't brought down, the snow/wind event very well could. There's still the potential for more power outages ... so don't let your guard down ;)

I live in Louisville and I don't look to get my power back until Maybe Wednesday or Thursday, if then. In the mean time the generator is running and the kerosene heater is burning.
LG&E will want to raise rates to cover their losses again. Wonder if I can cut their rates to recover MY losses?? Oh wait, I don't have stock holders to pay dividends to.

Well I just got my power back again. Off and on for a couple days now. My hats off to the lineman as I know they are trying.

I was without power for 4 days, but it's back on for now. I would not be surprised if I lost it again though. I get my electricity from Blue Grass Energy. I got home Friday to find a crew working on my property. They said that they were working 18 hour days. I thanked them for their hard work before inquiring when the power might be restored. The foreman told me that honestly there is so much damage that he wasn't sure. I again told them thank you for you hard work, stay safe and I'm sure everyone will survive if they just use common sense. I get tired of people complaining that they are getting done quickly enough. I am in the construction industry and I totally understand what they are dealing with. I tell people that complain about the service that they just need to give these men and women time to make things right. I know it's a major deal not having power, but I think that 99% of us will survive and we are really spoiled. There is that 1% that really needs power(elderly, sick and others like that)...that's where the 99% needs to buckle down and help the other 1%. If some people would help as much as they b**tch and complain, then things might not be so bad. I am sure everything will be ok by the spring spawn; I might take one of these guys fishing if I get the chance.

This has been an experience I won't soon forget! Power may be off at my home for 2-3 more weeks. I have running water and gas heat so it could be much worse. Some folks I know, have been told it may be 2-months before power can be restored to their homes. I even got landline phone service yesterday, thanks to the utility crews. The utility crews have done a great job in this area and are to be commended!

Me and my brothers helped clean up our parents yard this weekend. We took down 5 (25-35 ft) trees and numerous limbs. It felt great helping them out! They live in Paducah and got power last night so the situation is much improved.

Will try to post a few pictures here in the next couple of weeks. Note: My fishing spots should have plenty of good tops to fish around this year!

It a little late with this, but here's a pic of how close I came to losing my boat on Jan 30 2009. The tree is a river birch in my neighbors yard. Would you believe that it's standing tall and proud now?? Never lost anything more than a few twigs.
