Was you fishing the river or lakes off the river. Used to have good luck in Riverside, the ole Gay Lake area or Look and Tremble. Thats been several years ago, 4 or 5,. Now in Il. 14 degrees this morning with about 7 inchs of snow on the ground. You fish and I will stay warm.....
yea it was a dead lake off the river Bristow lake just north of look and tremble, Gay lake is gone now the river bleww threw it abou 5 years ago.
Big and many Shellcracker in Bristow. Working on the well at upper end 12 or 15 years ago when Mose Baldree came out with an ice chest full of some of the biggest I have ever seen. Had to help him load the chest. Could drive in then. Down the long red clay gravel road at almost the top of the Jay hill. Then the hunting clubs took over. Ain't Cambell's right close...

Hey ya'll. I am in McDavid and was glad to see that someone posted some info on the area. I am still fairly new to the fishing here in the Panhandle and am trying to get a feel for the fishing on the river and the old cutoff lakes and such. Thanks for posting and I hope to hear from you if you are willing to share the knowledge.
Went to Post and Bend myself, Caught a few but threw them back. There was too much wind to be able to fish. Not to mention too much cold. Caught a lot of small fish, though.
Hi Guys
Had to go to Opp, Andalusia and Brewton last Wednesday ... came back thru Century, Jay.. Crestview and etc.
The old Conechu (or is the name changed to Escambia at the hwy 2 bridge ?) looked good when I crossed it ...

wheres post and bend, heard of a lot of places but that dont ring any bells.
down river from Sandy Landing ( Mineral Springs ) on the Escambia side. At least my family has always called it Post and Bend. Could actually be named something else. Fished there for years. Camped there as a kid. Not to many bends down from the landing.
Hi fellas; a hoosier here reading your posts so don't laugh too hard but what the ---- is a shellcracker?
Also gonna be in pensacola late april early may and not too interested in saltwater fishing. Any information on lakes within an hour from pensacola would be appreciated.
they are a breed of panfish, highly sought after, because they are great table fair.the local folks should direct you to escambia river, some small lakes off river .
can you drive to it, if so explain how. if by boat , how?
Redeared Sunfish .. they have a "crusher" in their throat for crushing shelled stuff (sanils and etc.).
Plenty of streams in the area and the lakes off the river contain most of the crappie fishing ... Several large state made lakes in north part of area I don't really know if they have crappie in them but they have some of the largest bass in the area as well as great bluegill fishing.
Hope that helps

Thanks for the replies. I have been in florida a couple of times now and am always impressed with the hospitality of the folks I meet. Thanks again.
sandy landing is off of chumuckla hwy. to get to post and bend, you have to go down river. If my memory is right, it the first slough on the right, after about 5 or 6 bends. You cant go very far down river passed it because of the log jam.
