These were poured from a do-it mold called a Button jig mold.I'm not sure if do-it still makes them.
good to know, now as i recall i thought most of the non ball molds were for larger diameter hooks. So do you end up with much much flashing around the hook shank?

I do prefer aspirin type heads although im sure i could catch fish on any head.
I made 2 molds last semester that i finally got completely finished so the next time i light up the lead pot ill get to pour some. They are both flat sided heads with a a slightly smaller than normal collar but no barb as i could not figure out how to make them manually.
I learned cnc last semester and finally got a complete program written to make more molds but with small double barbs so when school starts again ill get them made. I may end up trying some tying with these new heads.

Woohoo, CNC! Looks like you're well on your way. Maybe you can apprentice with the master SC, he certainly could use some help.

Is your sprue gonna allow enough lead flow to pour full heads??? Or do you think you'll need to make it bigger?? Not a CNC person and have never tried except with Plaster of Paris molds, but looking at where the hook is gonna be sitting it looks as though the bend in the top of the hook my impede the flow of lead to fill our your heads. Let us know how it works!!

Do-It doesn't make the Button Jig mold anymore. The closest thing out there now is the Aspirin Jig mold they make.
The difference of the two being: The Aspirin Jig looks like a round head with the sides flattened. There is still a spherical shape to the head along the top and back of the jig. Whereas the Button Jig looks like an Alka-Seltzer tablet, round and flat.
What that means in terms of how it reacts in the water (between the two) I'm not entirely sure. I know the button heads slice through current like a knife through butter and they will not twist in current either like a round head will.
Also the button head has twice the profile size of a comparable round head.
So a 1/16 size button head has the same profile as a 1/8 round head. I'd also imagine the drop speed would be faster too.
BTW those CNC molds look sweet. You're well on your way to being another option for custom molds if you so chose to do that as a $$$ maker. But I would make the gates bigger and move the cavities closer to the top of the mold. Too narrow of a channel to travel and too far to go means cold lead by the time it reaches the cavity. Plus you need room for the air to escape.
(Lucky me, I managed to find a button mold years ago and it was very probably the last of the mohicans when I found it. I have seen them pop up on eBay once in a blue moon, but you gotta be vigilant and willing to pay to get one when you see it.)
