Hey there -
My partner and I are heading up to Sinclair tonight to try shooting some docks. We are going to be in the Crooked Creek area tonight.
Hopefully, we can find them.
Usually, you get a lot of babies out there....but, it's fun to catch nonetheless!!
Hope you wear them out. Do y'all ever night fish Oconee? Thursdays Macon Telegraph had a good report for night fishing Oconee and the June issue of Ga. outdoor news had an article about it. I've got to try and get out sometime myself.
Yeah, we sure do fish Oconee at night sometimes. It just requires a little more setup time since I usually anchor down and drop lights at Oconee. We don't head up there to dock-light fish. There is a much bigger concentration of dock-lights at Sinclair.Quote:

Hey GAboy I can't wait to get off work today, we are camping tonight on the lake in a huge RV. Getting a real early start on Sat, trolling is still on fire. We are having a bragging rights tourney. One of my partners was on some good fish last weekend so I have to show him up. One more question that I just thought about, what test pound line are you using to troll now.

Well, interesting you should ask about the trolling line......it depends on the lake first of all. Most lakes, except for Lake Talquin, I will use 4lb test in order to be able to get it down deep if I need to. In about 90% of cases, I have 4lb test on all my rods.
Thanks man, I'm going to change 2 of my reels tonight and see the difference. By the way thanks for showing me the double rig, thats going to be my go-to on the new lakes.

Ran out to Crooked Creek last night....they were pulling water like crazy...it was honestly like fishing in a river....kind of cool actually!!
We went LM fishing for about 2 hours before dark and landed 4 fish. I caugh one on a top-water buzzbait....probably went 2 lbs or so, then I caught another on a rat-l-trap, less than 2 lbs. My partner caught one on a eletric blue worm, and another on an electric blue lizard. Both about a 1.5 lb or so....nothing big, but some entertainment nonetheless.
Before we started fishing, we threw out some catfish jugs too, and watched them slowly drift away....we had 6 in total and tried to keep an eye on them, but the current was pretty strong.
Well as we were moving along fishing, ye old Game Wardens pulled up to give us a quick check...first time I have been checked all year. We showed them our goods (PFDs, license, etc.) and they went on their way. Of course they stopped at my jugs, not realized that they were mine I guess and they checked for the name, address, etc. and pulled the bait right out of the water....anybody got any ideas on that one???? It didn't matter, but I was just curious.....
We after all that excitement, we started shooting some docklights for crappie and/or hybrids......I have a picture of the bigges hybrid I will have to take off my camera still....it went about 4lbs or so....he knocked the crap out of a yellow shallow running crankbait. We caught 42 fish in total...at least 25 of them were hybrid, I think they really enjoyed that strong current. We caught a couple decent crappie. But, at the end of the night we released everything. We probably fished from 6 pm - 2 am. It was a good time for all. The water temp was somewhere around 78 degrees and the water was a medium stain up by crooked creek. We caught most of our fish on a white hal-fly type bug that had some silver/metallic thread in it. They absolutely loved it! Everything did...the hybrid and the crappie. Caught a couple on a black/chart also. I will post the picture later, I don't imagine the quality is all that good, it was VERY tough to get a good picture of the fish being as dark as it was.....
Nice post GaBoy. Sounds like you guys really slayed 'em. We took three boats from work with seven guys total. My boat didn't do so well, we landed one crappie and 4 or 5 bass. One of the other boats, one of the guys landed about a 2.5 to 3 pound largemouth. The third boat had a night about like yours. Their livewell was crammed full of bass. We were hitting the dock light with worms and ShadRaps. We stayed on the water until about 3:30 in the morning. We were passing folks coming TO the lake as we were leaving. I just purchased a new boat recently, so I haven't shot docks in a really long time. But, it was a lot of fun, so we'll see you out there some night, I'm sure. We had a great time, which is what it's all about.

Yeah ... we ate at Chobe's then put in at Little River. Worked dock lights and then worked the banks next to the bridges just before we left. You're right about the current ... it was really moving.Quote:

i found that the "shakespeare excursion" does decent for shooting docks. 4lb test with either 1/24 or 1/32 jigs. i make my own marabou jigs. and the rod is only 12.95 at wal mart.
