Wintertime Hawgs on Greeson

The big ones are starting to show up on Greeson. They are all full of eggs and though still hanging out near deeper water and channels, it could almost be considered staging for the pre-spawn. Here's some pics of our recent wallhangers. Jerry has as many or more and got one the other day that went 2lb.14oz.

January 8 -- 15" Black 2lb.2oz and a 17" White 2lb.8oz.:

January 9 -- 2lb.3oz Hybrid (look at the pattern, a mix of black and white but with only 6 spines), 2lb.8oz. Green Carp, 2lb.2oz. White:

Nice pic of a "hybrid". Not sure I've ever seen such a good look at one! Thanks for the pic and the info about the spines. Nice catch. If I'm ever out your way, I'll be donating some money to get you to take me fishing!

MAN...Great catch Darryl!! I'm hoping to hit the water this weekend maybe. Maybe I can get into some of those! Can't wait for crappie camp!! That was a great time!!

Genetically speaking, since it only has 6 spines on the dorsal fin it is a white crappie. Most everything you read about Black and White crappie it will tell you they will not naturally hybridize. But, when we catch one that has the body type mostly of a black, the markings that don't dominate either species, it lends to the fact it is a hybrid. Jerry gave a biologist in the Hot Springs region one for study and agreed it was a hybrid. To this day "he" found it, LOL. Nonetheless, they are rare and credit for their discovery is even rarer, lol.

Ceb is going to have to find a longer leash is my guess. Now if Darryl will quit rubbing it in my face that I'm missing out with these stringers he is posting.I might be able to get away from the meds I have to take after looking at Darryl and Jerry's web sites on a daily bases.
