Duck Jigs
Hey guys,
I haven't posted here in a while. I been hangin out on the Hunting forum tellin lies about how well my duck season has been going. Anyway, I pick the feathers off most of the ducks I shoot to make jigs out of. Here are some pictures of jigs I tied out of various ducks.
I'd like to hear you comments. And I know most of you go by the "less is more" philosophy when it comes to jig tying, but I just lean toward the other side a little bit. I like to be able to recognize the bird on the jig. I truly believe that God used ducks to hint at the vastness of His creative ability.
Here they are. The first pic is made from the feathers of a wood duck drake. Second pic is of the same jig. Third picture is a jig made from a wood duck drake's head feathers. Fourth picture is just some random feathers. Fifth picture is of a mallard drake wing feathers and wood duck tail and head feathers. Sixth pic is another picture of the fifth.
Lemme know what ya think...

Those are some really sweet looking jigs! I love the look of the first jig and the last jig. Maybe I need to try duck hunting sometime and get some of those feathers!

Thanks for the nice words, guys! I truly appreciate your compliments. It means a lot comin from yall. I'm still new to jig tying, but I love it. I especially like tying them out if a squirrel, deer, or duck I have shot myself.

Those are some good looking jigs, well done.

Makes me want to dig though my feathers and see what I have! I love working with different ones but you have done more with them I ever have. My favorite is the bright irridescent short feathers, I think from a mallard widgeon but not sure. Are fun to work with and have coloration you can't find in an artificial material.
Very nice work.

Hey Black Crow,
Those will all catch you a lot of fish. I'm partial to the fourth and fifth one, however all are nice. Well done my friend. Looks like the crappie are going to have a duck dinner soon.
