do you use the cursor to mark the tree??? or just hit mark??
I use the cursor to mark the tree but when I go back by for another look sometimes it is like what I just looked at vanished.
You should be able to see it with your 2d sonar
I was using the mark button and having the same problem. Now that i use the cursor it is right on.. I hope you get it figured out. I also use the cursor to mark on the 2D sonar. you can place it right on the stump or whatever.. Wish i could help
Just make sure your cursor is right at the bottom of the stucture when you mark a waypoint if you want to pin point the structure.
Mark at the bottom (base) of the structure opposite the shadow (if any) closest to the water column (left or right). Zoom gives you a better view and allows a more accurate mark. MOAO.
Cane PoleYes, Yes, Cane is right on the "mark", If you are looking at a 10 foot crib/brush pile you could be marking 10 feet off subject by not following Cane's advice.....;)Quote:

Dumb question in above the picture is that a mirror image or pictures of both right and left of the boat?
Dumber question. Does the bottom show up vertical on the screen ? It's confusing to me. Not sure what I'm looking at not that I've looked at one in person. Seems like all the pics I've seen show the bottom up and down not horizontal like normal.
yeah, that is so hard to figure out!
Glad to see it's not just me!
Here's my guess...
I'm thinking top to bottom of screen is front to back of the boat. Center screen to right or left it depth.
How about some one that knows what they are talking about clearing the air????
I can help. Those are not mirror images to the right and left. That is what is actually on each side of the boat. The black in the middle is not the depth...it is what is called the "water column which is the area directly below the transducer not covered by the side beams to each side. The water column will be thin if its shallow and quite wide as you get deeper. The unit scrolls top to bottom on the sideimaging so whats at the top is current and whats at the bottom has been passed up several seconds earlier. The little boat icon in the center top is your boat in relation to all of this. Hope this helps.
Thanks CarpPoop. So we are looking out to the side at a view that is at a 90* angle on the screen instead of parallel like a regular sonar ? That was my question and I guess I'm wondering why they can't show it left to right instead of top to bottom. It makes me dizzy looking at it cause I keep tilting my head to see it. I guess guys must get used to it. Seems to be the rage in some circles. How do they work in not so clear water, say the Mississippi River ? Thanks, Jim
champ-You have the exact same problems when you look at it as I did before I bought one. I understand exactly how your mind is trying to interpret it...because I was the same way. I was making it much harder than what it was. Dont tilt your head....you'd be loooking at it wrong if you did. Think of it this way...pretend the lake is drained and you are a bird looking straight down on the empty lake. That is exactly how you interpret it. If you think of it in this context it makes much more sense that the screen scrolls top to bottom rather than left to right. I think the one defining moment for me was when I went out the first time and passed over some known objects and saw how they were interpreted on the screen....after that it was clear as a bell.
One way I have been told when first learning the unt is to print it and fold in the center allow thin line. Now turn it with folded edge up. the fold is the top of the water column. I hope this doesn't confuse you.
Bttmline
Thanks guys that helps "see" what's on the screen. Still not sure it's worth the money but maybe
There is a web site on Yahoo, called ( unofficial side imaging site). It is ran buy engineers from Hummingbird. They can help you with any problem you have and it's free. I and hundreds of others have gotten a lot of help there.
I see humminbird has the high accuracy gps reciever in Bass pro new catalog.
$199 is a lot to pay for it.
should get a discount for the old one.
its not on humminbirds web site.
