Burnt Cane
I knew we had a big rain last week and Burnt Cane might be muddy..... and boy, what I right!! It's high and muddy. We put in Saturday, fished a couple of tops, then went on down the lake only to find that the further we went, the muddier it got. Man, I was hoping it would be good this winter, but looks like it ain't happening again this year. Talked to a couple of older gentlemen who were leaving. They had been trolling and thought they got a couple of hits...... Oh well, I guess I'll crawl back up in the deer stand!

I am debating on deer or ducks...
Maybe back to the scaley ones later next week.

The last 3 times I tried burnt cane , I just didnt have any luck, we caught 4 or 5 small fish, and I do mean small. I fished the tops and spots they are usually at but no luck? I sure hope they didnt leave during hi water this spring!

Burnt Cane update.
Well me and best friend went down to Burnt Cane this Tuesday the 12-30 and we fished hard and we struck out, but we did notice that there were millions of thread fin shad working the water every where we boated and the water was so muddy, I have not seen this condition in a long time. But one thing is certain if it clears up by spring those crappie are going to be fatten up with all those shad in the water they are feasting on.

last time i fished burnt cane i met a couple of "locals" that kept complaining about all the out of towners that fished Burnt Cane these days. My dad and i fished for a few hours and only caught 3 keepers, but when i got back to my truck i found out that some stuff had been stolen out of my truck. It was relatively small stuff, and i have a tool box on my truck that wasn't locked and there was more expensive stuff in it than was taken. I figered that some of the locals were tryn to send me a message since i had Tenn tags. Was wonderin if anyone else has had or heard of similar problems

Well, I'm a local, but not one of "THOSE" locals you were referring to! Theft out there has been a problem for years. I've been fortunate enough to NOT have been ripped off while there, but I do have friends that have been hit. Don't know if you're better off when lots of folks are there, or when you're the only one! One person came back to the ramp to find his trailer had been unhooked from his truck. Thieves likely heard them coming back to the landing and left. I can understand your concern about out-of-state tags, but I have my concerns every time I'm there too. Thieves don't care who they steal from.

Nothing changes, my Bass Club fished a tournament on the Arkansas River out of the ramp just upstream from lock and dam #7 in '75 or '76. There were nine rigs/trailers parked at the ramp. When we got in, we discovered all the CB radios gone (from 6 of the trucks) all spare tires that were not locked, and an assortment of other stuff that was not secured.

I'd bet the farm that the crappie left during the high water.Last year or three we wore 'em out but this year has been slow.
