Thank god I am flying back monday afternoon and will be fishing Talquin wednesday morning around 10:30 for 6 days. God I hate this cold weather and being tourtured by these beautiful fish caugth by lucky southerners.
My bag has been packed for 5 days.

We took our "HAPPY HOOKERS" with us last year for one fishing trip. Now, they want leave us along and we have to take them with us most of the time. However, at least their good cooks and it gives us more time to set around the camp fire and drink beer.
Now, if we could just get them to "CLEAN" fish, life would be good!
By the way, the "BLACK EYE" of me on the left was from the suggesting to learn how to clean fish! Guess we all know how that turned out!
How to stay out of the dog house link below!

Hi everyone, I've recently moved to tallahassee and found this site. I fished lake talquin wed last week for the first time. I put in at coes landing and bassed fished in that area all morning with no luck. I got stopped by a fwc and after a short interigation he gave up some info. :D I knew talquin was know for crappie and I haven't ever trolled for them. I've fished with minnows and still fished jigs under bobbers and had good success. I ran down the lake passed the next landing and saw a bunch of boats trolling/drifting and kept going till I came up on the next bunch of boats and decided to wet some lines. I talked to some of the boats that passed by and everyone said it was slow. There was no wind and the boat barely moved so I used the trolling motor and slowly worked the area. I caught 2 crappie and missed 2 others. I was using 1/16 oz jighead w/kailin grubs, tandem rigged. I fished for a couple hours and seen maybe 5 other crappie caught. The fwc officer told me that the fish have been concentrated near the dam so I will try there tommorrow, what area should I focus on down there, I looked on a map and plan on putting in at the ramp on stotamire rd. Whould that be a good area to start at. Thanks for any info
Well got on the water a little after 10am and saw a couple boats trolling. The wind was blowing harder than I expected. Put in at the end of stotamire rd and headed toward the dam. Passed one guy and he wasn't catching anything. I wasn't paying attention and heard some racket and one of my rods with double jigs was bent over, i thought I hung the bottom but happy to find out it was a channel cat about 2 1/2lbs. Fished for a while with nothing and was daydreaming again and heard more racket and luckily the rod in the back was in the rod holder or it would have been gone! It had a minnow on it about 7ft deep, it was tearing off drag and I grabbed the rod, fought it for a while and got it close to the boat then the hook pulled, Damn! Didn't even get to see it, my guess a stripper, not a cat, no spinning or slime.
Fished till almost 5 and that was it, only seen one other boat out and he was bass fishing. I fished the channel edge, points, and over the flooded timber. I marked fish everywhere but no one home. I also fished boat docks on the main lake. I tried everything. I will try again after xmas. Happy holidays everyone and what i'd like for xmas is some helpful hints on where to try when I get back.:D
captcharles29............welcome to the board and a great lake. The wind can be down right awful at times on Talquin.
Hooker...Nice mess there...dont want to take any of your spots but my dad and brothers and I are thinking about making our first trip to talquin and we were wondering if you or anyone else could give us a hint as to what part of the lake you guys were fishing. It is about a 5 hour drive for us and we want to make sure that we arent fishing dead water when we come up! Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give. Good Luck.
sorry dog........... going to talquin tomorrow 5am.... lots of fog... no wind... will give you an update after lunch
Several Friends are at Talquin this week. I plan on going next Monday and stay until the 6th of January when I have to come home and get my other tooth worked on. It's been a good year so far and hope 2009 will keep the big ones coming. Used to fish for numbers but now I fish for the enjoyment and hope for the one fish that fills up my dipnet that's not a GAR. The fish at Talquin move from one week to the next especially with this weather so it's hard to tell where to find them. I usually ask Rusty at Lake Talquin Lodge and he keeps up with where the fish "were" biting....if you know what I mean. Merry Christmas
