Uncut with the correct proportions!!!
Un cut,, use a hair stacker to get them more even if you want.
Uncut. Gives a more natural look. Just make sure you don't use too much.
what's a hair stacker ? let me google that kinda scared what it might return
Okay yeah i googled that i saw those but how do you use them. i couldn't figure out the significance of them
Its fairly simple to use SL.you put the desired amount of hair into it.tap a couple of times and it lines the tips of all the individual hairs together.
I only cut the end near the skin and then cut how much I want off from the same end to make it the length I want. Never cut the end that is tapered as that is what I want.
I always cut near the skin to keep what is left easy to get to. If you are using bucktail then maybe want to save the drops if long enough to use later if you ever want to spin deer hair.

Hair stacker??.........I thought that was a Ronco product used in a comb over!!
Alright I am gonna attempt adding all these ideas and I will post another picture.
most of the times I never trim the tapered ends, however have trimed a few pinky jigs lately, and now they have the profile of a tube jig, havent fished them yet tho. this was only to reduce the bushy look, as the kiptail hair was kinda curly.
i understand what your saying redear. that makes complete sense.
the reason for doing this with the pinky jig is, when I had my mold made, there was a bump stop at the back of the collar. and this causes the hair to flare a little too much for my taste sometimes, plus I have been told that alot of people trimmed the originals to just behind the hook bend. on the other hand when tying 1/32 jigs on a size 8 hook, I never trim the hair, it just don't look right, quess thats because there is so little of it. but these jigs don't have a collar and can be tied to look a little more streamlined. the more you tie hair jigs the more you will find that there are several types of hair on one kiptail, some of it is suited for really small jigs, and some is suited for 1/16 or so.
redear you bring up another point. When using a mold I have a 1/16 mold but it has a lead collar should I get another mold so far it seems to ms this collar gets in the way and causes the jig to look wacked. Maybe it's my tying ability.
saline lake jigs, I use the collared jigheads for 1/32-3/32 bucktails for casting to crappie etc. and my pinky jig mold has a collar too, with a bump. however I wish I'd had the collar made a little thinner. I think you should get the plain ballhead mold with no collar, your jigs will be much easier to tie and look better. collars can be a pain because you have to spread the hair around the collar equally in an attempt to cover it up, this is tricky and requires a good amount of hair to do. I think a sparser look is better. I have three collarless molds too and use them all the time, they are a pleasure to use and the heads are a pleasure to tie. and tying a chenille body jig only looks good on a collarless head too....kip
Kip you in the jig swap right? Well I tied a chenille jig so let me know if they worth a darn cause all I got is a collard mold old lady already lookin at me wierd how ever I did buy her, her very own vise. If I can get her involved maybe the 500 BP bill won't shock her.
I cut the tails sometimes, I just make sure I don't cut them straight down but at a 45 deg angle to the back so the middle of the tail is the longest part. Not as natural as the way Skip does it but it gets by in a pinch for me. It seems to work better on feather tails than hair but will work on hair too.
saline lake jigs, No I didn't get in the jig swap, maybe in the future. As far as your jigs being worth a darn, yes I'm sure they are. Hey if ya wanna try a plain roundhead without the collar and ya can't see buying the mold right now, just take a pair of side cutters, and snip at the collar till ya get it off of there. also you can buy them from grousefly or chuckanddebs tackle, for good prices. back to the hair cutting thing. It can help when you are tipping the jig with a minnow etc. I just have a thing about hair etc. all over the minnow, possibly making it hard for the thing to move and be noticed.
ok I probably buy a new mold but it be about two weeks till I order one. What y'all think best size is 1/16 or 1/32?
ya really need both. when I drag corks back behind the boat, and tip them with a minnow ,I use 1/16 and put a split shot above that. when the fish are shallow and I'm usin a bobber and jig, then I'll downsize and put a peice of gulp product on the hook. Of course if that don't work I'll try 1/16 shallow too.
If you can only get one get the 1/32 oz. You can always add a small split shot to get the extra weight when you need it but it is tough getting those jigs to loose weight. Kinda like a fat man in a donut shop....just ain't gonna get no smaller...lol...brim
put them on a diet an unleaded one. I might just buy both I for some reason always leave my split shots at the house with everything else I need. Thank god I got a wife during bass tournys she keeps me straight otherwise I would forget the boat.
