I lived there for about 3.5 months. I caught trout out of Oak Creek, Bream and cats out of Dead Horse lake in Cottonwood. Never caught a crappie though. Do they have any in AZ?????? Just curious.

How about these caught from Roosevelt Lake....
I was pleasure boating on Lake Havasu a couple years ago and was wondering if anybody ever crappie fished there? I was also wondering about any other species?
There is some great Crappie fishing in AZ. This year has been a little tough at Bartlett and Roosevelt but Alamo and San Carlos have been real good. Welcome to AZ and email me anytime.
Centerdriver,
I am from Ocala but the Military has me in AZ. There are plenty of Crappie in AZ. If you are ever out there again just let me know and we'll go out.
Nice specs, are there any white crappie out there ?
Yes there are some white Crappie out here in Lake Pleasant. All of the other lakes have black Crappie in them.
Hello Arizona I was looking at your crappie postings ? or lack of ?
Centerdriver 3.5 months and can't get one crappie?
Jig Man boating a couple years and wondering is there crappie or other fish in the lake ? I was wondering how you got that name Jig Man, do you dance ?
Cousin good to see someone in Arizona can fish, nice stringer !
I dont know about crappie, was 1980 or 81 I lived in Yuma and we made a cpl trips up there striper fishin, trolling anchovies. Before I started fishin for crappie much. Later on in the 80's I caught crappie on Apache Lake and Saguaro or Canyon, cant remember which. Roosevelt was the top-producing crappie lake at that time to my knowledge. Mittry & Martinez Lakes north of Yuma gave up some fish during the winter months.
C'mon you AZ anglers, I for another person am starvin to see AZ reports.
Good fishin to ya all.

There is a Crappie Forum on The AZ Bass Zone :: Arizona bass fishing chat, news and information. We are still working on getting an AZCA website.
Caught a few at Rosey yesterday but it's still tough. Should get crackin in by the end of the month.
It is great to see some Arizona folks on this site. I have only been a member of Crappie.com since June 2008 but I have been researching the site for about 3 years now. Finally decided to become a member and start contributing. I live in Safford, Arizona about an hour from San Carlos Lake where we fish about every other week, though the past few months we have not made it out much...work demands. I took my Father and oldest son out the day after Christmas. We got two bites but didn't hook anything. The lake was murky as all get out. We found a lot of specks up by the dam on the south side of the lake (cliff's) but we could not get them bite anything. I hope to get out this weekend. The lake temp was 54 degrees but like I said, super murky. I was on my way back from Show Low, AZ on Saturday and saw a lot of boats heading back toward globe at about 4:00 PM. I have not heard if anyone is catching anything but the bigons should start biting soon.
TeamCSJE try jigs 3-5ft deep under a cork. with boat in 8-12ft. of water. works well with water temps in the mid 50's good luck!
Yates,
Thanks for the info. In Arizona we don't seem to have a winter pattern since mid 50's is about all the cold the lakes get down here in the southern part of the state. I will give your tips a try. Do you reel slowly or just let it sit? What kind of corks do you use (brand, style, etc.). I am always looking for new information and willing to try something different.
The size of jig tell you what size of cork, go small...reel it slow, let it sit, pop it a little.. just play with it ..the fish will tell you..
Yes.. I know..they told me to fish deep here in ohio also the crappie go deep in cold water... I have not missed a week end since Christmas. up to today the air temp been around 34F. with 15 to 40+mph winds.. the coldest day was 18F. the warmest was 41F. the water temp been 35-39F for the last two weeks, we been catching 70+ every Sunday & again on Mondays.. most of the crappie are coming in 3 to 7 feet. under a cork, on the colder day there 5 to 9 feet deep..IT WILL WORK most crappie fishermen don't try it. because they read a book about winter fishing.. Good Luck..
I don't read books, I read my Eagle. I'm glad it hear it works for you, in Ohio,
Man, I definitely need to learn to fish better in the Winter. I understand that if you can find them in the Winter in our Arizona lakes you can really kill em'. I have been reading the posts from Art Chamberlain on the AZBASSZONE and it doesn't sound like he is doing to hot yet. What is going on at Rosy? It sounds like ever since the lake got way up the crappie fishing has been terrible in comparison to what it normally is.
Yates,
I tried your technique over the weekend at a small 15 acre pond close to my house and we did good on the bluegill but not specks.
Yates, thanks for the tip bro but all your quick wit won’t bring Crappie at Roosevelt Lake, AZ to 5’ deep.
There is Crappie information on Alamo crappie - AZBZ Forums
Yates, They may have that CLEAR water like Brookville.. The water does need to have a little color to it, before a technique like that works best..
How do you catch a crappie in 60 foot of water should be the question? Drop shot?
Our waters are what I would call merky. As far as catching them in 60' of water, they are suspended. Normally in the dead of winter the Crappie will be around 18' in anywhere from 25 to 60'. Normally, this year has not been normal.
The funny thing is that someone in OH whats to argue about fishing in AZ, then make some wise crack about what may have been read in a book. I spend a lot of time on the water and have many friends that do also. I am not only a fishing lead at Bass Pro but the President of the AZCA. I get reports from customers, club members and guides everyday. So I'm probably a better source on AZ Crappie than old Yates. Now if I were heading to OH or anywere else to fish for Crappie, I'd listen to the local guys.
This winter has been a very strange one at Roosevelt Lake. The crappie have been deeper than I've ever seen them. The good news for Yates is that the Crappie have started to move up and some are now suspended as shallow as 10', but they are still out in open water around 45' deep. In a month or so they be stacked up in the mouth of coves and by April will be on beds.
Piscolli...sorry sounds like your upset, I was not telling AZ. fishermen how to fish...
TeamCSJE post that he had a slow winter bite with a 54 degree water temp...
I though he might want to try something a little diff...
as far as winter fishing by the book there was no wise crack.. again something diff...
you argued it won't work in AZ. not me... crappie are crappie and should be the same in 54F in OH. or AZ. and will be caught many diff ways ...I did not want to upset anyone if you go back and read it again with out being mad you will just see a different opinion...
___________SORRY ! I wish you well with your new AZCA...
No worries Yates, we can match wits without getting mad. Maybe I tried to make my point incorrectly. All I was trying to get across was at that time the Crappie were very deep. Normally I might try your technique. Roosevelt got a lot of new water and the fish had not adjusted. A friend of mine was spooning for bass and caught Crappie at 45’ deep. It has been an unusual and tough winter for Roosevelt Crappie but with spring here and warm temps, that will change soon.
Your right though, Crappie are Crappie. But I would guess our desert lakes are much different from the lakes you fish. Our lakes are in rough rocky terrain with very little trees, its mostly brush out here. Depending on were your at on which lake, there are big rock piles and sharp drop offs. You can check out Roosevelt, Alamo and Bartlett all at National Parks of the American Southwest - Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, California; Slot Canyons & Travelogue.
If you ever come out west holla and maybe we can wet some lines together. My services are very affordable. :D
sounds like a good time..if you come to Ohio.. my fee is a six pack of silver bullet's
after we wet a line.. stay safe Larry
I used to fish Ute Lake and another lake (maybe Conchas) in New Mexico back in the mid 70's. I spent 2 years there. Yeah those lake are definitley different than our Ohio lakes. Then again, they are some what similar to EF Lake and Ceasars Creek Lake in Ohio but on a much smaller scale. EF falls off pretty quick into deeper water (60' -90')especially on the lower end of the lake. These lakes are fairly deep with alot of rock shores but we do have more trees here. And we don't have rattlesnakes.
I know we used to catch most of our crappie at aroud 8'-10' deep suspended over deeper water. What few trees that were there, were magnets. If we could find shallow cover we caught fish. Of couse back then, the depth finder was the anchor and a rope and I was the motor on the boat.
I would think those western lakes would be a great place to add some cover to, condos and xmas trees.
One day I hope to make a trip out west again. I'd like to do it when I can take more time than one week to enjoy it.
Unfortunately it is illegal to add any structure in the lakes in AZ. We (AZCA) have been trying to go through the red tape to be able to place structure but it is becoming more of a pain than it is worth. We'll see though.
No worries Piscolli, arund here Yates is known to be a PROFESSIONAL NETMAN!!
