797 or 1197 combo.. the 997 has seemed to have most issues with it
A 2009 model, new 798 model will have 2 card slots not one as in 797 & for all units just maybe- maybe they will get a handle on SLOW GPS:rolleyes:
Mr. Lewis,
Thank you for contacting Humminbird. Please note there has not been any update regarding the GPS for the response time. If there is an issue with the position fix ensure the GPS receiver is mounted in an open area for optimum satellite reception. If the GPS is internal this is meant the same for the 797 display to be mounted in an open area. If there are still concerns with the operation you may send the system to Humminbird to be checked and serviced as needed. Address is listed below:

My friend Jennifer @ HB! you should have asked her for some free stuff. That's who got me mine, Tom. :D
Sounds like she doesn't know anymore than when I talked to her...too bad.

Reggis e-mail me direct might save ya some cash on a unit [email protected]
I have the 797. I do have the inland lakes map card for it and love the Gps on it. It saves my ass when ever I'm on the water running a river in the lake. Otherwise I would have run a ground more times that I can think of.
The SI part of it I don't like. Small screen and not enough pixals so not a clear picture. At least not a $1000.00 worth!!
It all comes down to what you can afford. If at all possible get the 997 with it's bigger screen.
