Just Wondering If The Crappie Are Biting?
sorry don't know much about millwood but welcome to the forum 223 champ
Welcome, from Hot Springs! Have read nothing of Millwood recently. I suspect iwth the high water coming from the three rivers that it is like most other places right now--fish are scattered and not the best of conditions.

I dont no if the fish are biting or not. But if you go I"m going with ya! CHAMP
They were biteing good last time I went but its been awhile not sure if they are still with all the rain
I have a couple questions about Millwood. I've never been there but plan a trip in October. My map shows lots of timber. Is it mostly dead timber or live cypress trees? Are there large submerged stump fields? Are the boat lanes clear and well marked? Any help would be appreciated.
There is a mixture. There are cleared marked boat lanes and the river channel is marked.
Lots of Bois darcs on the east side of the lake.
We have a group from Texas going up on October 10th-12th.
Should be awesome fishing that time of year.
All of the above. At Jack's Isle, you'll find a bunch of cypress. All out in the lake you will find flooded dead timber. The closer you get to the dam the clearer it becomes.
In the Spring there is GREAT fishing on the well-defined creek channels AND below the dam. The Lake Manager told me the other day that two poachers were caught last Spring taking 150 crappie out from below the dam. Too bad for them there's just one way in and one way out.
No swimming! Lots of alligators.

Take it easy on the 3lb males Jerry, might be just a tad early but not for a couple pros like you and Paul. Why didn't you guys show for the single pole on Truman?
I know we talked about it but I can't remember why we didn't. Seems like we had a club tournament here? Has Truman ever gotten back to normal?
When you planning on going to Millwood?
Truman is about a foot high now, has been flooded most of the summer, fishing has Still been good. Not sure about the trip to Millwood, might be a spur of the moment deal.
I've been to Millwood half a dozen times and only seen the gators once, but it was prob a bit early for them. There mostly up the river in the oxbows I assume.
Jerry, you need to have a tournament there in the spring since CAST won't be anymore!
The best things about Millwood are two: There's lots of wood in the lake still. 2) There has been no formal introduction of stripers into the lake. I spoke with a buddy of mine on staff at Millwood, this morning. This is his best guess:
"Hello John, the crappie bite is slow right now. If I was going, I would go in the Saline or Little River main channels, fishing pretty deep over any submerged structure such as tree tops etc."
So there you go.

The best thing about Millwood is 2#+ CRAPPIE!!!
Stripers? no thanks
The worst thing is its to far from my house!
I hear that Champ. Sure is alot of fun catching 2# Crappie all day long
Tell Charlie/Kevin i said hi.
We have about 20-30 going to Millwood next month. I hope the wind lets us fish where we want!
I'd love to see a tournament there next year. We'll be going in early April again either way.
Hey guys,
Me and the wife fish Millwood almost every weekend. The crappie had slowed somewhat after the increase in current 2 weeks ago. It seemed to be around 10,000. We will be there friday night (probably camping at White Cliffs.) I suspect the current will still be strong.
The "crappie tops" in the river where not producing for us 2 weekends ago. We caught about a dozen in Mud Lake and a few in Horseshoe. The bass were schooled up in mud lake so that kept us busy. I hope to be able to fish the river this weekend. The crappie fishing was very good for us up to the hurricanes. The trick is to find the clearest water possible with structure. I will report after this weekend. See hey if ya see me. Big red lund boat. You can't miss me!

As far as the spring bite, it is the best crankbait bite of anywhere I have ever fished. They LOVE anything chartruse. As good as it gets.
