I tie 1 using pheasnt tail, for the tail and back, and use tan chennille for the body, and use a pumpkin head. On either a 1/80 or 1/64 oz. head.
Have caught gills, yellow perch and crappie on it.
Sounds interesting but what does a Mayfly jig look like??
I guess it's a mayfly on a jighead.
I tie mayfly...flies. But not on jigs. I do tie some light bug looking jigs though for bream.
Heres mine
flytyfish would u like to sell a couple of those if so pm me those things look sweet
I can tell you that if he did tie it and where to sell them it would cost you at least $100 to $250 dollars for each one. There is probaly 20 or so hours of tying in it. I used to freguent the realastic fly tyers website before it went down and thoses guys are great at tying realistic looking flies for display. Some tied semi realistic flies for fishing though. I wish there website was up and running again.

That was my first thought as well Jiggin Joe. If it's not real, then that is truely a work of art. I would never actually fish with something like that. If I was able to tie one like that, It would be in a glass case somewhere.

I know the site you're talking about and you're 1000% correct amazing tying. There's a bit of it on Fly Tying in their realistic section if you want to keep up on it.
Also you can check out some here http://www.grahamowengallery.com/fis...fly-tying.html

It really is tied nothing is glued or carved. The body is made from raffia.I have put these on here before. And by the way thanks for the compliments.I am in the process of tying a mayfly that I already have about 40hrs in and I have not even finished the body on it yet.

Lets get back to the original post please.
What is your favorite mayfly jig pattern?
Fly Anglers OnLine, Your Complete Internet Flyfishing Resource. Type in mayfly in the search box and go to realistic Mayfly.
I would be happy if I could just find the right shade of yellow.
I used to use a pale yellow tube jig back in the '80 and killed the
crappie on Lake Tyler. Now all the plastics are too yellow, don't work
as well.
good luck

I've tied an Adams dry fly on a collarless jig head before but the pheasant tail nymphs, gold ribbed hares ears work good too. If you tie a dry fly pattern on a jig head get ready to get stabbed:D:D LOL. With the hook eye pointing up in the vise you'll get dinged sooner or later.
