T-Ville 7-3
Ok I'll say it--T-ville is starting to get my goat! I have been 4 times in the past two weeks and not one crappie. I've tried casting to blow-downs, bobber watching ,Ky rigs and trolling. Both deep and shallow, trees, flats, and brush piles. (LOL) If it wasn't for the catfish I'd go hungry! Hate to rush Summer along, but Fall Fishing has got to improve the catch rate. Anyone else having a hard time finding fish or have I lost the touch?
-
buddy I've never fished Taylorsville, but Barren River has been the same with me. Once summer arrives I convert to trolling for hybrids because I just cant seem to catch a crappie out of that lake.
I can still catch a few out of Kentucky Lake this time of year, but have not been able to on Barren.
I recently went on a trip with Brad Whitehead and learned a new technique for trolling that I plan on trying at Barren. You can cover a lot of water this way and eliminate unproductive water. I was surprised as he pointed out that Crappie don't move as far away from their spawning areas as people think. We ended up catching 42 crappie and this was just a couple of weeks ago.
I'll post the results when I get a chance to try em, but plan on waiting till after the 4th traffic clears.

Downwind,
We've had the same results at T-ville this year as you. Only a few crappie caught each trip. Sorry to hear you're not catching but glad someone else is suffering too:D Going to try it in the morning for a few hours. Wish us luck.
Take care,
Greenfish

Went to Smyrna Bait & tackle, he said he caught some hybrids on some live shad. He said they were about 8 feet down, from what he showed me they were decent sized.
-
Luck to ya GREENFISH I'm sure things will pick up for someone. Let us know how you do!

T-ville no-go...
My wife woke me up yesterday morning at 2:30 (had barely gone to sleep) having contractions so we had to go the hospital instead of to the lake. Everything is fine and no baby just yet but getting close. I'm not sure how much fishing I'll get in the next few weeks but I don't think I'm missing much. Everyone keep me posted on the catching or lack there of.
Take care,
Greenfish

Fishing for crappie for me has stopped until cooler weather and cooler water temps. I might go after a mess or two of catfish during the summer but that'll be about it. The bite aint happening for me right now either.:o
-
Catfish won't be hard to come by. I made up some jugs and have been picking up cats in the mornings. First time fishing w/ jugs and I sort of like it. Easy on gas too! Not as good as crappie but at least it's a fish fry!
Greenfish- keep us posted on the pending birth. Good wishes to you both!

Hey Greenfish,I was going to t-vill but my wife cancelled my trip until later in july.I will pm you when we go but your wife will probally cancel your trip lol.I hope everything is fine when the new crumb snatcher get's here.
-
I went for a couple of hours Friday, didn't get a single bite.
It's the worst I've ever seen, they're probably filling up
on the sicades-LOL
I did notice lots of new small 1" shad swimming around,
guess there's plenty of food for them right now.
I hope the crappie grow and get real fat:D
-
Thanks for the updates fellas. I agree that the catfish may be the ticket for a while.
Downwind,
How deep are you running bait under your jugs right now? I'm guessing 10 to 15 feet would be about right (thermocline usually 15 ft deep or so on T-ville). That's just a guess since I haven't set jugs this time of year before.
SlippedCork,
Let me know when you are heading to T-ville. Depending on when the little one gets here I may be able to swing a trip to the lake before long.
Take care,
Greenfish

6 to 15 with two at 20' Using shrimp. Fishing down from Van Buren right pass the "NO SKI" buoys.
-
Heading out there today, any good spots for catfish using actual fishing poles and what bait? I heard a guy talking about how he was catching nice hybrids on shad.
-
Pretty SAD when I have to read about Catfish on a Crappie Forum. LOL:)
-
It is SAD, but a fellow has to do----------
KYmdfisher? Did he happen to say where he was picking up the hybrids? Maybe around the hump? Going to Herrington Lake Wed.. I'm going to fish off a lighted dock and see what's biting. I hear it can be pretty productive for the hybrids and a lot of fun.
-
Downwind,
I may have seen you with your jugs out a couple of weeks ago. I fish that general area for crappie from time to time and there was a boat manning a lot of noodles just past the no-ski buoys. I appreciate the info. You even answered my question I forgot to ask about bait.
On a side note, my wife got put on bed rest today. Baby (crumbsnatcher) might be here before long now:eek:
Take care,
Greenfish

Very well could have been. Tracker boat---if you see me again come on over.
Best of luck to you and your wife with the upcoming (sea puppy) new arrival! Keep us posted!

Downwind,
I fish out of a Triton Tr-200 and will certainly stop and say hello if I see ya out there.

He said by the hump, but we went to tom wallace or whatever and didnt catch anything maybe T ville tomorrow

Just some FYI ....
Taylorsville Hybrids were nearly wiped out from people using Chicken Liver as bait ;) ... at least the "legal keeper sized ones" were (almost).
I have caught Hybrids on live Shad, fished on bottom in about 10-12ft of water. But, most of them have come on 1/4oz Silver Buddy's (trolling the "midlake hump area") and on Hot-N-Tots with a jig trailer. White Bass are willing biters on these baits, as well :)
Channel Cats (when I actually fished for them) can be caught on cut Shad, 6-8ft deep under float ... my place of choice is the first pocket on the bank across from the hump at the main lake junction split (where you turn right, coming from Settler's Trace Marina heading towards the dam). The pocket is on the bank to your left, after making the turn. I tied up to the standing trees in that pocket, and cast out towards the main lake about 20ft. I kept the Bluegill occupied with small scraps :p so the cats would have a chance to find the bait ;)
Also caught Hybrids trolling that hump area, too.
Trolling for Hybrids/White Bass is what we would do from 11ish til 2ish ... after Crappie fishing from daylight til the Sun was over the water above the blowdowns (they just seemed to quit once the Sunshine was on the blowdowns). Hey ... it's pullage, even if it ain't T-ville Slabs :D
... cp

Baby update...
Well, we have a beautiful baby girl born 7-12 at 6 lbs 6oz. Unfortunately she is having a little trouble with her lungs and has been tranferred to Surburban hospital. They have a great staff there and are taking wonderful care of her. She is slowly improving but could still be in the hospital for another 6 to 8 days depending on how things go. We are very tired but have had great support from family and friends with lots of prayers. I thank everyone here for their prayers and good wishes and ask to keep them coming. I'll try to give an update when things change. Thanks again to everyone.
Take care,
Greenfish

Greenfish,
Congratulations on the new little fishergirl.
I so sorry to hear about her lungs. I'll keep her in my prayers. It's good to know she is getting great care.
Hope to see ya on Tville sometime.

Greenfish,
Your in my prayers. Hope your daughter is doing better soon. Hope your wife is doing fine also. That girl is going to look great fishing next to dad on your Triton in a few years.

My family will keep you and your (new addition) and family in our thoughts and prayers.
Congratulations!

Thanks everyone for the prayers, they are much needed. I forgot to mention that my wife is doing good. Her blood pressure is still up but that should improve in a few weeks along with the swelling. Latest word on baby Audrey is she is doing much better and will hopefully get off of the respirator tomorrow. Next thing you know she'll be learning to jig the trees and fish a slipfloat on T-ville. More updates to follow.
Take care,
Greenfish
