Anyone used beetle spins in general? I have used them many times and caught a PILE of fish on them, including a 4lb bass. My favorite is a 1/32oz black one on 4lb test line on a 5 1/2 foot UL rod.

That is my favorite bait for bream. Black split tail with yellow stripes.
I use em and like them. They are a great traditional bait (kinda like a Rooster Tail), but I have had better luck with them on lakes then rivers. My problem is I am always on the river, and just can't find my niche with the type of lure/bait to catch the amount of fish the other boys on this forum do.
I see you are new here - welcome from Saint Louis, Mo - these boys know alot
I love them catch tons of fish on them. I love the yellow with black stripes and white red dot.
using a marabou Roadrunner, over a BeetleSpin. I've just caught more fish with a RR.
One trick I've learned, when using a marabou RR (right out of the package) ... is to trim the hair to about 1/2 the original length, between the tip of the hair and the hook bend ;) This makes the bait smaller, true, but it also stops alot of the small fish from just nipping at the tail. It certainly hasn't stopped the Crappie and Sunfish from nailing it :p (or the White Bass, Black Bass, Channel Cats, Drum, Hybrid Stripers, and many other species ;) )

what i have done from time to time is put a road runner on a beetlespin blade setup...deadly for white bass
1/8 oz. green with black stripe split tail, and the 1/16 oz. white with red dot are my favorites. you can catch just about anything that swims on one of those two baits.
I'm trying to learn to use Beetle Spins, but the problem I have is... they are too light. I have a UL setup with 4# line, but can't cast it more than 10' from the boat!! How can you cast the 1/32 oz a good distance?
i have a casting set up for them.. a 7 foot ultra light with 4 lb test on a small okuma reel.. i can cast it plenty far
I'd be checking the spool to see if the line is tangled or has a cut on the spool itself.
Second check the guides on your pole, with a q-tip to see if theres a burr that's keeping the line from flowing freely.
You should be able to throw way more than 10' even with a 1/32nd jig and the weight of the spinner.

Hmmmm, I dunno deathb4.... the rod is a lil 5 footer or so, small spinning reel with 4 lb test... no tangles in line, guides are clean. Heck, I can toss a heavier Roadrunner a country mile with the thing... its just the beetle spin that won't toss out too far!
sounds like not enough line on the reel.
I use the Roadrunner :D It's more aerodynamic, even in the same size/weight class, than a Beetlespin. The Beetlespin seems to catch more air, thus shortening the potential casting distance.
You "could" try a slightly longer rod, with similar tip action ... or you could add a very small splitshot up the line from your Beetlespin ... and, if you're not fishing very deep, even a small weighted bobber (or even an unweighted one) might help add some distance. If the shaft of the spinner arm will allow it, you could also try putting a small splitshot on it ... keeping the body of the bait, the same size, while making it weigh more.

30 years ago b4 I started flyfishing I used Beetles. 1/32nd oz with 4 lb test and a 5 ft UL rod. Always caught fish, all kinds. The original Beetles had a "large" white eye which I think played a part in fish catching. Also I retrieved very-very slowly, just enough to move the blade, deadly. Use to let out lots of line sometimes and again retrieved slowly and caught some nice walleye also.
Great bait and always gets em.
I hear ya.
I find a long pole works best for casting as long as line is 10# or less. A 6' or 7' medium action baitcasting rod will cast a 1/16 or 1/32 oz. beetle a long ways. I can cast a 1/48 oz jig about 50 ft with my 10' jig pole and 8# test but the small guides limit my distance unlike a medium action baitcaster with larger guides. If I use 6# I can add about 10 more feet.
What kind of baitcaster do you mean? I have a bass type bc, and cant cast anything under 1/4oz with it. It is Medium action.
I have 2 old Quantum rods i bought for around $30 each and I have been using them for years I have 2 closed faced Zebco reels with 10# test and they cast just fine on 1/8 and down. I also have used a 7' med hev with 12# to cast a 1/8 oz when i was red fishing and saw some marsh bass schooling. I was able to cast it about 30 to 40 ft which was enough to get where I needed to catch them.
I think you mean SPINCASTING, not baitcasting.
Anyway, it makes a difference.
No baitcasting, like you use for bass fishing. I do have a spincast also but it has a 5'.6'' rod and it does cast well but not as far as the longer rod. If I had a long spincast it would cast better. Rod length is the key. I've been using these type rods and reels for more than 35 yrs.
