KY Fall Fishing Trip

Just got back from fishing KY Lake for a week Apr7-12. Was our first trip to KY Lake and it was a diseaster as far as crappie fishing. Hired a Guide on the 8th and got skunked...yes 0 crappie..The rest of the week wasn't much better. The stay at Moors resort was not that good either. They were unprofessional and not very personnel. All that aside the trip was still worth going. Spending time with my son and family made it worth it...Anyway I was considering planning a fall trip but was wandering what month would be best in the fall for crappie..and any suggestions on where to stay other that Moors...Still want to stay/fish in Kentucky..

Hopefully my second trip will be more productive fish wise..any help is greatly appreciated...thanks

Sorry that your trip to KY lake was a disappointment, your timing was not the best in the world. I don't know who your guide was, but in his defense I will have to say that the crappie fishing during the time period you were here was about as "bad" as it gets for any April. The flooding, wind, and cold fronts coming through several times a week makes for some tough fishing. If you want to come back in the fall, I would suggest October, but that also depends on the weather, water temp, etc..
As far as Moors, there bedside manner has never been that great. You can get on-line and find several resorts that would appreciate you business.

Sorry to hear about your trip. As for the fall I tend to like November or even December the few times I've made it down that time of year. November is probably better if you're planning in advance because it may not get as cold. Can't help you much on the lodging but there should be lots of options.

First thing I have to say is this post is coming from Twobrokesfarmers wife, not twobrokefarmer. We made reservations for the weekend at SPORTSMANS LODGE, for the weekend, got there on friday morning and went fishing since we couldn't check in until 2pm, and we caught about 15 fish :)and it came a down pour fished some in the rain, then went to check in and got to the cabin and lord behold it knocked my socks off to what I walked into,:eek: So I went to the office to see if they had a room in the motel because we had stay in that part several times before and it was nice and clean, and always had nice service, but I guess someone got up on the wrong side of the bed. Talking about UNPROFESSIONAL AND NOT VERY PERSONAL this would have been ranked # 1. The manager went as far as making announcement in the parking lot of the cabin areas by talking so loud and flapping her arms like a duck. Need less to say I would not recommend them at all. I would have to say I have travel and been to several motels and campgrounds in my life time and that was the worst I've ever been treated. So we loaded up the truck and came home, there was no way I was staying there after being talked to like that and paying for it. Well I just hope you get the meaning of this. A good fishing trip turned out to be a nightmare. And I hate it because it use to be a nice place to stay if you could get a motel room or a new cabin.

P.S. I also hate that a good weekend fishing trip for my husband and me was ruined because of a manager who was (Quote) tired of handling complaints and trying to make her customers happy.

I agree with Ky Teacher, Fish-Tail-Lodge in Paris is a great place to stay, they are really nice people. They have motel rooms and also cabins for rent.
They will go out of there way to make you comfortable.

I stay at the fishtail several times each spring myself. The restaurant behind the hotel has good food and the rooms are very nice and clean.

Sharon and David even let me clean my fish outside the poolhouse. (I always take extra steps to make sure they can't tell I've been there cleaning fish)

As far as the fall fishing goes I've been there in October and found it's just a little early. I caught fish, but mostly small ones. I hope to make a few trips this fall and plan on fishing November/December. Christmas Crappie are always nice.

Sorry about your bad experience at the Moors. With the rise in cost of things curtailing peoples travel you'd think they would have gone out of there way to accomadate you.

I Planned a trip earlier in February to Weiss lake and Made reservations for a Thursday, Friday, Saturday. After eyeing the weather in advance a system bringing rain and colder temps was forecast for those days. I called the hotel owner several days in advance and asked to reschedule my stay for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. He told me that he would not honor my request and cancelled my reservation explaining to me that the weather is always subject to chance there. Well I sure didn't want to drive 4 hours to fish if the weather was going to be bad. Fortunately, I was able to find another place to stay. Each day I drove by this guys hotel I noticed his parking lot wasn't even half full and he had vacancy. Guess he didn't need my money.

Sorry to hear about your busted trip. Been there and done that. It is nice to hear you kept things in perspective. Time spent with family or friends is never wasted especially if that time involves fishing! We just got back today. We stayed at Big Bear for a week (April 12-19). We have been going there for years. The resturant makes a great breakfast and great burgers for lunch. Just wished it stayed open a bit later (opens at 6 a.m and closes at 2 p.m.). We have never had any problems there, give them a try next trip.

We have been staying at Big Bear also for 5-6 years now. Nice place, nice people, and a great guide from their place also. His name is Rodney Hairgrove. As for the fall season. We have been down the later part of Oct and the first week of Nov. I think the week of Nov was better fishing, BUT most of the marinas and bait shops all closed the end of Oct. Therefore we usually go down the last week of Oct anymore.
