any recent reports on crappie fishing at Ky lake?
Things should be looking up....sometime in May ,, maybe .
but they're not very encouraging. Check the posts/videos by Cane Pole, on the Main Message Board, and you'll see how they're being caught "up the lake" (in Tenn, Big Sandy area) ;)
Best case scenario ... they keep the lake level stable, at it's current flooded levels ... launch ramps are still accessable ... next week's warm weather is enough to counteract the cool down of the coming days. THEN, you might still be able to find them ... by fishing the flooded live trees, flooded grass fields, flooded campground equipment, and flooded "buckbrush" or lawn hedges -- provided there's at least 3-4ft of stained to dingy water around them.
... cp
just got back from blood river fishing was tough we did manage to catch a few. it was so windy thurs. and fri. but we managed to pick up about a dozen the rumor we heard fri was they were going to pull another foot and then wait til the spawn was over
I would say the rumor of the lake level being stabilized for the spawn was just that---a rumor. I have never known the Corps of Engineers to do anything to help sportsmen once the dams are built. They are in the flood control business and would probably be surprised to find out there are actually fish in the lakes.
dux speaks the truth.
Flood control and power generation come first, pleasure boating second, everything else a distant third.....
I'm hoping this cold weather is the death rattle of winter. I've got a brand new boat that needs to be broken in right.
We just got back last night from Jonathan creek. People were catching a lot of males way back in the flooded trees and brush. With all of the wind it left most of the boats compacted into a small area on the lake. We fished a day and a half and came home with 23 nice crappie, up to 14 inches. Most of our fish came on minnows near bottom in 10 to 13 feet of water. We probably could have caught more up in the trees but didn't want to fight the crowds there. Hope this helps a little, but I'm sure this cold weather is going to change things. Good luck.
Take care,
Greenfish
i'll be down to our cabin Wednesday night and fishing Jonathan Thursday - Sunday. If you guys see a camo excel jon with a 50 yamaha not catching any fish stop by and say hellooooooooooooo.
I may try to look you up next weekend.
I'm planning on going but I don't know where I'll launch yet. Priority one this week is getting somebody to cut some registration numbers to slap on the side.
We will be in Johnathan Creek Thursday. I will look for you. We will be in a 20' O/D green Alumacraft with a 90hp Yamaha with two idiots drinking beers acting like they know how to crappie fish.
Hey Rooster 278.. We'll Be At Jonathan Also This Thursday Thru Sunday.. We'll Be In An 18 Foot Dark Green Crestliner With A Yamaha 50 Horse...i'll Be By To Get One Of Those Frosty Cold Ones From You... And I May Have A Fish Or Two And Maybe Not... But Hey Its Supposed To Be Halfway Decent... Sure Beats Work..
We're being invaded by IL....:D
I was there for 5 days, suppose to stay 6. Jonathan creek looked like a cappachino coffee. We didnt stay long. Fished Ledbetters, duncan and shawnee bay. Didnt catch many, but nothing under 1.5 pounds. Marked a ton of fish at the mouth of bays in 28-35 feet. Either could hold because of the wind or they just werent hungry. Caught fis jigging and casting, didnt matter. I sure hope next year the weather is better. This is the second year in a row the weather has been horrible.
We fished Jonathan creek Friday and Saturday. The winds killed us both days. Saturday we had to come off the water at 2:00. Then Sunday in Ledbetter the sleet came and we had enough. We did finish with 47 total. All black crappie and 11"-15". Spider rigging in 12-22 ft with minnows. Going back in two weeks. Should be better.
There's no technically to it.
You flash a beer in front of an LEO and you're in for a ticket at the minimum.
Something else to note. Don't get caught with them simply in your posession if you go to LBL. No alcohol allowed and those are federal charges. The feds don't play over there and have never heard of a warning, either. They will invade your campsite in a New York minute and ticket everyone there whether you are actually drinking or not.
The lake is dropping to about 360.5 by the 17th, I think they will take it down to 359 over the weekend and leave it there... Weather looks promising, I'm going to Blood 20-23. I hope them fish are finally shallow and hungry.
Judging by how few recent posts there are on here, I say the fish must be biting!

Will be coming to Blood on the 22nd-25th. Will be staying at Kentucky Beach Resort. Any comments on KY Beach Resort, I have never stayed there before.
Hope the crappie are up shallow then.
