Fuel

I get this feeling I'll be telling my children, "I remember when gas was $1.59 a gallon."

The petroleum industry knows that we will pay the kind of money we have been for their product the last year. It may never come back to the level it was............................I'm sure fuel prices will come down, but not where they were 3-4 years ago.

What's the solution? Hybrids?
What's next? Increased energy bills?
Anyone else see a "crash and burn" in the economy in the next 10 years?



We used to budget $20.00 a week for fuel in my vehicle. That would get me to and from work, a couple fishing trips a week, and some "chore" driving.
It just cost me $43.57 to fill the tank up....................................

I think what most people can do is remember this the next time they go to the ballot box.

I don't think it's a mystery why we are paying so much for fuel these days.

But mostly people don't want to touch on the subject. Just have to ask the question..."Are we better off than we were six years ago?"

What's happening in this country is a damn crime but no one has the balls to stand up and say it's enough for fear they will come accross as unpatrotic or some nonsense.

My Wife works at a country store her sister rents it from a small oil company that gets their fuel from hunt oil. When they send the fuel invoice sheet, It shows the price that hunt charged the small oil company, .93 cents per gal.The small oil company adds 100 percent. .93 cents, Then the State-county-city Taxes are added .48 cents per gal. so that's... 93+93+48=$2.34 cents a gallon. and out of that her sister makes .03 cents a gal. She pumps at the most 5000 gal a month that's $150.00. it dont even pay the power bill to run it that's my thought's :mad:

I COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT ANY BETTER. MY GUESS IS THE BUBBAS AIN'T BEEN SCREWED HARD ENOUGHT OR LONG ENOUGHT FOR ANY COMMON SENSE TO WORK IT'S WAY INTO THEIR BRAINS. I HOPE THEIR BRAINS GET WORKING BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE FOR ALL OF US. JUST STOP AND THINK WHAT EVENTS LEAD TO THE PRICE OF FUEL TODAY. OK time to seperate the wheat from the Chaft.

As long as companies like Diabold and ES&S are running the computers that count the vote this country will never be the same again.

How we let these guys develop the computers, program the software in Secret and count the vote without any oversite is beyond me.

We are going to be seeing higher and higher fuel prices both in Gasoline and in Natural Gas to run our vehicles and heat our homes

Ask yourself this simple question. Are you better of today than you were 6 years ago?

Did your small federal tax return make up for the increase in the State Taxes that you are not paying to make up for the shortfall that the states go from the Feds? Did that rebate make up for the increase in prices of everything that depends on Foreign OIL? Everything in our entire economy is dependent on the price of oil. Anything that has to be shipped goes via truck or rain or plane and they don't run on peanut oil... yet. Pretty soon they will be running on soybean oil or peanut oil but it takes crude oil to make the fuel that runs the tractors that helps farmers grow those soybeans and peanuts. So even the farmers are going to be hurt by these higher fuel prices.

Only people that are making out in this work today are those that sell the oil and those that sell something to the US military.

when fuel jumped last month i trade-in my 02 ford/explorer that started costing me $40.00 to go back & forth to work on an 05 chevrolet/colorado
extended cab & now spend $40.00 to fill up my truck & kermit's 04 chevrolet/colorado/z71 (offroad)!

also, oldest son is back in town and he sells chevys!

somebody has to be lining their pockets on these fuel prices and how high will it go by summer :(

I say build more refineries and nuke plants.And buy all means pour on the coal.We all know we went to war in Iraq for oil, and I'm paying 2.15 per gallon for regular. Sheesh I think one day the price will get to a buck 75,and we''ll all go phew damn i'm glad the price of gas came down. I'd say get used to our love affair with Ishmael.

If I was a smoker and lived in New York and had to pay 10 dollars for a pack of cigarettes,I'd be pissed.Or I would quit smoking.

I'd worry more about China whipping our butts. European Union(who has the style of government we desire) considering on dropping their ban on military weapons being sold to China. I pray we have a missile defense system;I don't want to see the skin of our children melted off their bodies.China is building their military up bigtime.

I think we'd better take a damn good look at what's going on here at home before we go sticking our big noses in other countries affairs.

China is something I know about having lived there for 10 years and Asia for 15. They've got more problems than you can ever contemplate. Shaking a stick at them and calling their hand is all that's needed at this point. They'd kill themselves before they were able to mount a meaningful attack.

If Reagon and his administration wouldn't have sold military technology with them during the 80's we wouldn't have to be as concerned today. Those are documented facts. They, the Chinese turned around and sold that tech. to the highest bidder. The Middle East.

We are our own worse and most dangerous enemy. We are stupid when it comes to other cultures and the rest of the world knows it.

But I think we've had enough diversion by this administration with Iraq and chasing the shadow of Ben Laden.

Meanwhile they set things up for themselves and their buddies to get rich.

I'm tired of the scare tactics this administration has used on the old and uneducated in this country to support their agenda.

It's time to question authority again folks.

Otherwise just stand out in the pasture with the other sheep and wait to get fleeced.

I don't think it's a matter of being a dem. or rep.

That's part of the problem, seem's it's all about taking sides these days. Really I think it's about being a concerned American and asking "why the hell are we doing this?"

But as Fishingpox eluded to and I agree, you can't tell the difference between one politician or the other or in the end one party or the other. Some special interest group has them in their pocket at the end of the day. They owe to much to the company store to look after our well being.

The number of elected officials that are doing what they do for the good of the people and as "public servants" are few and far between today from what I can see.

As I've said before, we need a statesman at the front desk of our country. Someone with experience and who has an administration working for him (us) that is not at each others throats and have some inspiration beyond their own personal agenda's.

I couldn't give a rats tail if it's a rep. or dem.

I guess I fall in this category Hoot..lol..and I refuse to get myself into a political scuffle. I would like to know from you educated folks why diesel fuel is as high or higher, in some cases, than premium gas. I would like to have facts and not opinions on this. How about some help here Moose.

Do some of you folks remember the Bay of Pigs? I was there. There are some things higher on my agenda than gas prices.......

I hear ya on that one....I hate that gas prices have gone up so much too, but I got the fishing fever and the gas prices won't stop me....I will just start bringing more people to help split up the costs more...ha ha!!

One of the main reasons that Diesel fuel prices have gone up so dramatically is because of "supply & demand". Competition for a barrel of oil.

Industrilized and developing nations in Asia for example; China, India and Thailand are using enough diesel today to rival America's consumption.

The whole "supply and demand" motto is just a escape goat for them to stick us with higher prices. Make X amount a day and thats it, if we run out we run out. That would be a way to stop polluction, less fuel equals less polluction, doesnt take a rocket scientest to figure this stuff out.

Well I'd agree with you Ted that if we use less oil we will reduce pollution. That may be an unexpected benefit from the higher prices.

But....considering that most of what we eat is delivered by trucks that travel across America, I doubt that putting a cap on useage is going to solve the immediate problem or make many American families very happy.

Maybe we should consider developing our rail systems, certainly the travel (amtrack) systems to reduce our dependence on cars.

The fact is that the U.S. with it's extensive highway systems has been the #1 user of oil in the world. Also the #1 polluter for a long time. We've got a love affair with our cars (I'm one of them). It's a symbol of freedom to get where we want to go when we please and will be hard to get people to accept alternative modes of transportation.

But during the past 10 years, and will take China as an example, thousands of miles of new interstate highways have been built in that country. China's economy has more than tripled in the same period. As a result, there are not only more trucks on China's highways but because of a ballooning economy, more people can afford and are driving their own cars.

It's substantiated facts. These countries I mentioned are now using oil that matches the consumption in the U.S. All of this taking place in less than 10 years.

Now throw in a war in the oil rich part of the world, regardless if the prices are being minipulated, the prices are going to go up because of competition.

Diesel fuel is cheaper than gas to process. But because of developing countries that change the landscapes of their countries by the day with construction the demand for fuel and diesel fuels construction, is plain and simple competition for a barrel of oil.

Well i'm not old, or at least I don't think so. I am uneducated but , I do read,faithfully.If you have to know his name i'll look it up, at this moment, off the top of my head I can't remember his name. He is know all over the world over his views on the nation of Islam. He is Islamic himself. he approximates there being one billion people in the Islamic faith. He says 10 percent of those one billion have taken an oath..in Allah's name...to kill Jews and Christians. So,by this mans belief's,there are one hundred million fanatics out there ready to kill you. However,being conservative as I am lets say there is one thousandth's of a percent that has taken that vow, thats one million fanatics. A pretty darn strong army.

Yes, I'm better off than I was last week, last year,or when I was a kid. Why? I have worked my butt off all my life. Actually, I have it made. Secondly,because of men and women in uniform that have died for their country, that gives me the right to bitch and moan and groan about gas prices. Maybe I should get an education and experience the euphoria.

We are in a catch 22! They raise gas prices to keep us from using to much gas. Then when we slow down on using gas, they will raise the price again
because we aren't using enough for the oil company's to make money.
All I can say is that if you voted for this administration than you have no complaints about anything this administration is doing. Was this increase in gas prices really a surprise to you. What did you think putting an oil man in the Presidence was going to accomplish? Enjoy the fruits of your labor. Just stop and think of all the destruction your administration has done to this country so far, and believe me they aren't done yet.

howdy all; i live in southeast Ohio. the most depressed part of the state (we qulifieyas part of appliachia), yet the prices here are higher than the rest of the state. that much said, i was wondering why it is that the sunday night news reports that the price per barrel (45gal., not 55 gal. as most people think), has shot up to $53.00 per. the local station is jumping the price at the pump up $0.13 per gal. the morning. thier last delevery was on the previous thursday. anyone else notice these things? ok put my two cents in. by for now tarfu

I don't feel like I have had any good choices for awhile now - but as long
as the Democratic party embraces the things that they do, abortion,
gun control, unions, and so on, and the left wing extremist that they choose
to let themselves be identified with, I can't help but consider them the
worse of two evils. I'm sure some of you don't agree, but surely you don't
argue what their postition on these issues are... or fail to realize that a lot
of people will have serious issues with this. I would love to see a choice
besides what I've been offered - but it seems to me, the extremist have
taken over both parties, and folks in the middle have no representation.
As for money, greed, and power, do ya think anybody who is not already
filthy rich will ever have a chance at running things? And as for military
service, rich peoples kids don't end up on the front lines unless it is voluntary.
I am all for a change, and don't care which side it comes from - but somebody
has got to move back towards the center. And with the big cities and rural
folks having such opposing views on so many things, who knows if we can
even find the center anymore? I haven't a clue how to fix this mess.

Well said JW. Ted Koppel announced last night that the superdome is going to be torn down. Duh, I told my wife proir to the hurricane that there were going to be thousands of deaths from this storm, mainly due to the fact the New Orleans is 10' below sea level. The abortion issue alone should be enough to steer any God fearing person away from the Democrats. Unions were once good and just for the working man, anymore, they are as corrupt as any power. Not to mention overpaid for sitting on their butts most of the time. In most manufacturing, 10% of the people do 90% of the work here in America. Most of the time, the only thing a Union will do for you, is fight for a job, that the person most likely deserved to lose.
My opinion is that New Orleans will never be able to rebuild back to where it once was. I don't think they should even try. But, you can bet that Federal $$$ will be free flowing and some will get very wealthy from the fallout, while others remain homeless. The insurance Co's are probably already jacking the premiums to cover their losses. Surely, you don't think they are going to let Katrina affect their profits. Insurance is nothing more than a scam, and some of it is Government Mandated. Anyone who chooses to live near the coast should not be insurable. But what about earthquakes in California, Tornado prone areas and such. Where would it stop?
I seem to remember something in the Bible about NOT building a house upon the sand though...

This is a little off-topic, but on the insurance, how is it that my
homeowners doesn't cover earthquakes? To me, that is just inexcusable.
I agree, insurance is a rip-off. I can buy supplemental earthquake ins.,
IF they will still let me, at one time they had stopped taking new policies
in this area.
