Looked it up the other day. I would be about 20-30 min.
thanks I didn't mean to ask the same question twice I'm still new to using all this stuff.
No problem. I live in LR, but grew up in J-boro. I still miss NEA.
I'm thinking it's 11 miles from the intersection at Barton to the lake. Barton is before you get to Helena. I do know it's 44 miles from Forrest City, but you'll likely be coming in from Brinkley.
What town do you live in? My brother lives in Jonesboro and it is about 2 hours from there if I remember correctly. He and I fish Old Town frequently. Just take Highway 1 south out of Jonesboro. Go thorough Wynne, Forrest City, and Marianna. About 15 minutes south of Marianna is Barton (highway 49) Cross it and it is about 9 miles from that. A word of warning. The last chance for gas is at Barton. If you need diesel, Marianna is the last chance.
I'm from blytheville about 50 miles east of jonesboro
My advice would be to come down the interstate to West Memphis and then west on I40 to Highway 79 West to Marianna and then get on highway 1 South. That should save you at least 30 to 45 minutes.
I got confused I guess. LRJoe is from Little Rock, not cardinalfan!
Polebender, are you thinking about trying Old Town this weekend or are you burnt out from last week?
Are they biting pretty good over there right now?
I don't really know. I live in Alabama. I am thinking about going there simply because it is the only lake that I know of in that area that will not be affected by the high rivers.
Man I love to fish Old Town, but I've just had trouble finding any fish there this year. You might have hit on something though. Like you, I've found fish on the north end earlier---normally. Sounds like I need to fish the other end. I also like to bass fish there, and it is great at times, but I've only caught three so far this year. In spite of the high, fairly muddy water at Burnt Cane, I did catch a few there Friday and Saturday. They were right on the banks----literally! No more than 1-2 feet from the banks in the root wads and brush. Like you, I just love fishing around those cypress trees. I'll likely be fishing Saturday, but at this point, I'm not sure where. I would normally rank Old Town as my favorite lake, but Burnt Cane is moving up on the list---especially since it's only a few minutes from the house. Funny how I never fished it hardly at all until the last 3-4 years, and it's been phenomenal at times! Have you seen the dead crappie floating in Old Town that I mentioned??
We also had a big rain last night. Not sure how it will affect either place.
I have been there for 5 weekends in a row up until last weekend. I saw the usual occasional dead drum and buffalo but not a single floating crappie. I'm not saying that they wre not there..maybe they were on the north end of the lake. That is where most of the drainage from the farmers fields come in. I did notice that the algae was bad on the north end though. The fishing has been spotty during the day for me but overall the fishing has not been that bad for me. You just had to keep at it. Maybe I have just been lucky.
We need to get together some day and talk---or fish---or better yet---both!
I agree. I grew up just south of you in West Helena ( when it was a good place to live and not the war zone that it is now) and my grandparents lived in Forrest City. I still miss that unique smell of the delta so much that I travel there every chance I get.
Looks like Old Town is getting hammered pretty hard with rain right now!
How do you think Burnt Cane will do this weekend Polebender? Do you think the water will be muddy or will that make a difference? What was the surface temp when you were there the other day?
BC should be okay--I hope:D It was pretty muddy last week, but the fish were biting. Water temp was 58. I'll probably be there.
along with 75 of your closest friends if you spout off about catching any. i have seen 125 boats there one day.
Yeah, and the presence of TV news crews and that good ole boy on the fishing shows that likes to wear the orange cap doesn't help matters either. 100+ boats at one ramp would be a disaster if a storm came up. The sheriff's office had to be called a couple of times last year to break up fights between folks trying to launch.
