I am so geeked! The wife and I have been planning another fishing trip over her spring break (4/4-4/12). We were on Kentucky lake back in '05 and didn't hit the crappie like we were hoping. To make matter worse, all I had was my lil' ole' 12 footer w/ 7.5 merc to putt around with. Can't cover much ground.:( This year it's gonna be different. Check out the pic. Just picked it up today. Ready to fish now.

Congrats on the new rig. My wife and I just got our first "new" boat last spring and I can tell you we have had the time of our lives fishing out of it ever since then. We got the Basstracker CrappiePro model and are very happy with it. We hope you get in to a mess of crappie this time out in your new boat. Word of warning, however. The very first time we took our new boat to the lake, (Taylorsville), I put the plug (brand new) in and tried to tighten it up to no avail. I had a bad plug fresh off the showroom floor. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong but it turned out the plug was defective. We drove around to the other side of the lake and luckily found a new marine dealer open and you can bet I loaded up on several quality plugs. Anyway, you all have a blast and be careful out there. Well we are pulling our rig (5th wheel) w/ boat tagging along to Barkley Lake SRP. Really wanted to get on the LBL side, but seems when I was researching campgrounds there was an issue w/ water being available in most of them during that week. Anyway, with a bigger boat I should be able to go where the fish are. I ran a thread asking if you slab hunters down there keep in touch on the lake via radio or phone on the action, but I didn't get many replies...probably a loaded question!?! I know up here on Lake Michigan they are pretty free with info on where the fish are, colors to run, etc. Well, anyway I appreciate everybodies encouragement on the boat and mama and I will definitely hav a great time. See you guys in a week or so.
I did put it in a local lake near my home and ran it to test out all the goodies. It isn't a new boat...2002 model. I did check the plug first thing. I guess if the bilge pump runs probably should be wondering why, huh? I am going to have to do some homework tho. Has a pinpoint graph that is a lot more graph than I had on the old boat. From the little I have read so far, there are some really trick capabilities as far as networking other devices on the boat...like the motorguide 70 lb. troller. Guess it'll be a learning curve.
Get yourself a Transom Saver to keep some pressure of the Motor off the Transom. Also check the Spare Tire Bracket for cracks or loose bolts - I had one break off and lost the Spare Tire on the way to Canada a few years ago. Now the Spare Tire goes in the back of my pickup truck. Lucky someone didn't get hit with it - Never did find the Tire so it must have bounced down into the ditch.
Your talking about keeping weight off transom while hauling right? A buddy of mine had one if I'm thinking of the right thing. Thanks for the tip on the spare too. I'll check it over real good.
Yes I am talking about that. Look under your boat at the trailer from the back. In the center of the trailer cross brace there should be a slotted hole - That's where the Transom Saver would go in. You can Google "Transom Saver" and see if your boat has one specifically designed for it. I recommend getting one if you intent to travel especially on bumpy roads.
Hope you have good luck with your boat. I have the same boat, 2002 Tracker with a 40 Merc. I bought it new in January 2003. It was the leftover showroom model. I have fished a lot of places in mine. Santee Cooper, Guntersville, Kentucky, Barkley, Berlin, Ohio River plus all the local lakes around my home here in Eastern Kentucky. I really like my boat and the 40 is great on gas! Having said that I hope to upgrade to a 75HP someday just to be able to cover more water on some of the bigger lakes. Besides that I am a pretty big guy and two of my fishing buddies are bigger than I am. I never take more than one person with me but with two hefties it gives the little 40 all it wants. All in all it is a great rig and it didn't break the bank to purchase and it has given me great service and a whole lot of fun!!!!

I only got out in it the once just after buying it and it seemed to jump up on plane pretty good. It does have the 40hp jetdrive which gives you a little less move than a prop, but all in all it seems to move ok...after a 7.5 I guess anything would :D
Yeah Klight I hope we do better than back in '05. Guess alot will depend on weather, rain, temps, etc. We'll give 'er all we can to fill the well.
Hey Yankee-good luck on your upcoming trip. Nice looking rig you have there. The lakes (Barkley and KY)are flooded right now but may be back to normal by the time that you arrive. If you are not familiar with Barkley-be extremely careful, 30' of water right next to 3' of water. Many lower units have been destroyed in this lake. You may consider Hillman's Ferry Campground- in the LBL on the KY lake side. Has nice campsites with water, sewage and electricity. Also, has a nice boat-ramp. Just got home from there, weather and high water made for a lousy week. Very few fish caught. Hope you have better luck.
