Anyone know a good source for kiptails or bucktails that arent over priced?
Cabela's, Barlow's, Hook & Hackle, Feather-Craft, Jann's Netcraft and a host of others ...
Any local fly shop will also have it.
problem is though i live in south central IL. Not really such a thing as a local fly shop. The store i USED to buy all my stuff from when i was a kid went out of business thanks to walmart.
Are any of these shops are close to you?

If not, one of the online shops is your best bet.
I've heard good things about these guys, too:

Reason im looking for a good source of kiptails is the "premium select" craft fur you get at Bass Pro shops in St. Charles, MO isnt worth a damn. The pink the red the white and chartreuse in this picture is all the craft fur and it looks like crap outside of a picture.

ehh closest gander mountain is two hours away. With gas prices being what they are i didnt know if anyone had an online source that they used.
I don't have a fly shop any where near me at all, NADA and I buy everything on line.
By the time you drive to a local shop and spend the gas money and pay sales tax, you can get the stuff for less and have it delivered to your house.
Then the entire world of materials is at your fingers. Some even have free shipping if you buy over $100 worth. Even paying shipping the prices are less than any local store I have seen and then with the tax, it all should off set the cost of shipping.
You mention Walmart, I have to drive 40 miles to see a Walmart, LOL!

I have found when it comes to calf tail and buck tail there is no such thing as one stop shopping. But if you take all the name found in this thread you will get what you want.
For bucktails look up a local taxidermist and see if they'll give or cut you a deal for some tanned tails. I get them for free from a friend whos a taxidermist. They're not dyed but you could if you wanted to. Personally I use 2-3 times as much white so it works out for me.
Best place i have found for calf tail is jsflyfishing.com ,best price, many colors and fast shipping. Their store is in CT. but shipping is only 4.95, hard to beat that.
For GOOD craft hair, try Punisher Jigs. punisherjigs.com
I have tried Cabelas, and Jannsnetcraft, but Punisher has the best.

Doc has really good quality Kip Tail....
yeah docs sells his on ebay as well. I happen to run into an auction 2 days ago for 10 tails. I think i got 1 pink 1 FL yellow 2 green 2 orange and 3 black. Paid for them yesterday so waiting on them to ship em to me.
Now i gotta find a place for that nifty wax coated thread.
here are a few that i have made with some of the craft fur. Ive managed to make some workable jigs. Keep in mind the chartruese is the craft fur. I think once you get it tied dried and trimmed you can pull out all the crazy hair.
