I saw on their website www.titelok.com that the Black Widow Systems are on sale. You can get the Ultra for $99.99! If you want some holders or an extra set this is a good deal!!

It's funny that you bring that up. I have two "titelok" rod holders and there isn't anything tight about them. Nearly everytime you hang a fish or move a pole they come loose. Thought it may be operator error but WTC has been with me a couple of times and he can attest to the facts.
The way they hook to the boat is the best part. They are rock solid when poles are in the holders. No back and forth movement or anything but they sure do come loose easy.

driftmaster t250 is the way to go
hound is right! I guess some people have luck with them but man, those things are hard to set and I sure had alot fo trouble with them
HOUND, I have a removeable smith base and 4 pole holder if you want it for your side of the boat. It takes 2 more screws than the tite lok, but it is removeable almost flush to the boat! Only sticks up about 3/4 inch
They shoud be giving them away as bad as they are. Something smells fishy!!!!
No I just use their product and they sponsor both major tournament trails. If you will get rid of the "wing" nuts and put some regular bolts in them. You can set them and adjust them with a wrench, and they stay tight. Or pop the plastic "wing" off and you have a nice hex head bolt right there you can use. We've tried all the holders out there, and had the best luck out of these. The set in my boat is five years old, and have seen plenty of use. Someone is always asking what kind or which ones to buy on here. They have a sale going on if your in the market. I like them!
Well, I'll try and do some tinkering with mine and try the above suggestions. I'm just of the mind that if you sell a product and the name is "titelok" the they should be at least that...you know tight. I shouldn't be having to do this and do that to get em' tight, probably just me though.
Thanks for the advice 22F.

I love my black widows. Do they have a piece that you can put on them where it will hold a rod vertical while I'm re-tying lures?
Hound, if you will take a dremel or even a hack saw and cut the plastic on the wing bolt, it will come off and be a stainless hex head. A 1/4" allen wrench will fit it. I taped one to the handle of my pliers. Set the holder and tighten it down. My right side holder has been in my boat for three years, and I haven't touched it. They actually manufacture clamps for the camper shell industry, I'm guessing that is where the tite part came in. I know where your coming from, but if you buy a reel with line on it, the first thing you do is strip it off and put whatever type of line you use on it. Kind of the same thing here, nothing is ever as good as, or as bad as it seems. Hope it works for you!
I have two sets up front and just cant get the rods adjusted right. Going driftmaster on the back.
I hear ya. There is a lot difference between a cheap $9 reel and a titelok system that cost over $100. I get on the mods and let you know how they turn out.
Thanks again,

Toonman...I knew I couldn't be the only person having problems with this system. Sounds like these guys would make some mods. because I know most people won't say anything...they just won't buy their products anymore. It's a shame because I do like the sytem except for the problems am experiencing know.
Maybe you can make the mods suggested above and get yours to work as well.

Bump for this question.
I have trouble getting the spread right. It will adjust to much one way or the other . And the driftmasters you can lift the rod straight up not fight it out.
Oh yeah, throw the little disk with the adjustment bumps away too. With a wrench to tighten them you wont need them. My father in law took the time to make his work. I tried them and decided I had fish to catch. Yeah there is a difference, but I also bought a Ranger bass boat and modified it to fish for crappie. I'm not sure whether they make a deal to hold the rod upright or not. I believe a spider rigger is an engineer in disguise:) I'm sure we have all had to "make" something work! I just hate to see these holders get a bad rap. I have rigged 9 boats up here in town the way I did mine and all of the guys like them now.
if they are so much better with modifications, then it seems to me like "tite-lok" isnt putting out the best product they could. That alone would deter me from buying from them. I hear good things about drfitmaster, but the cheaper smith holders have always been just fine with me. In fact, they come a with a removeable base and I would say that they are about as good as any out there.
whole lotta money
WTC I just think they tried to over engineer them. Those little disks on the bottom of the holder is a good idea, but it may only work on one boat for all I know. They will work for a 393 Ranger but I couldn't for the life of me get them right for a 522. Threw them away and got it where I could tighten them down, and haven't had one minutes problem. Bert Bennett is the one who showed me about the bolts. He is on their pro staff so I hope he has told them about it.
Unfortunately, I'm the type to spend money rather than use my engineering skills.:eek: I was a clumsy kid, so I didn't do welding, blacksmithing, or anything that required me to heat steel to the boiling point, and beat it into the shape that I wanted...unless you include the sling-shots I used to make out of old metal coat hangers.
The rod holders seem durable, I'm cool w/ the bases, and the design, but when I'm working w/ 11 and 12 ft rods in a 17 foot boat and a fishing buddy on the back, I'd like to take advantage of all of the vertical room that I have, rather than intrude upon my buddy's personal space.
I bought some Titelocs this year before I researched them , and had trouble with them getting loose and adjusting them .
I got tired of screwing with them and bought two more Driftmasters .
I've used the Tite-lok's for about three years now on my boat. I agree with some of the frustrations expressed here about the holders. I replaced the rod holder wingnuts with hex head screws and recently replaced the base screws with bolts that I now tighten down with a rachet. This has made them very solid.
Up until adding the bolts for the bases, I had actually thought of trying to sell them to buy some driftmasters. Now that I've got the Tite-lok's figured out, I'm okay with them.
It does seem like they would try to address these issues to make their product better. I think in theory their setup design is good. Just needs some tweaking. My 2 cents.
I saw some pics on here somewhere where guys were tweaking there titelok with different knobs instead of the wingnut. The guy also used a different locking screw to secure the holder to the base. If someone runs across this picture I would like to see it again. I can't seem to find it.
That'd be me. Here's the thread with the details:
http://www.crappie.com/gr8vb3/showthread.php?t=44207 I'd at least get the cushioned hand knobs. They're the only reason I still have Tite-Loks. There's pics in one post that show them.
Thanks luvjign, I ran across it the other day but forget where it was. I want to do this to mine so it will make them better.
