I agree, I went to Old River lake on Fri and Sat, did OK, but both trips were cut short due to prior obligations, caught fish ranging from 4-6 feet up to 1.5-2 feet, all on minnows
Barnett....One of my best friends lives in Scott and fishes the old river some. I grew up fishing that lake alot. I have not been there in a few years though.
Wing,
I have been reluctant to post my results as I forgot my camera. I'm always encoraging folks to post some pics of there catch and I forget the camera myself.
We fished out of Red Barn Friday night and had yoyo's up on the upper end of the lake. We caught fish but 2 out of 3 were catfish. We did catch a reel nice flathead. The regulars down there said they didnt remeber catching any flatties down there. I would guess we caught about 40 total for the night and next morning.
Saturday was a great day on the water. Again we went up the lake and they were smacking a jig hard. My partner and I limited out by 3:00 and culled fish till dark. All they wanted was a black and chart jig and nothing else. In fact had a bonus pole with a black chart jig tipped with a minner and didnt get a bump all day.
If you go this week give us a report.
Gooch,
Sounds like you all had a great weekend, My wife has had the flu since about Thursday, so me and the young uns stayed around the house and fished a few of the holes around here. we caught a few fish but not many just enough for me and the kids to have are weekend fish fry. I am going to take my two favorite fishing buddies down there this weekend, Lord willing, My 8 year old and 5 year old!!
I talked to a guy at work today who said Peckerwood was hot when he fished it last week.
Gooch....Sounds like you had a great weekend. I think my pops is fixing to ease towards Ouachita about Thursday and try to get into a mess. I will be lucky to get to fish this weekend. The ole lady wants to watch basketball at alltel this weekend, and then I got my nieces/nephew(triplets) first birthday Saturday. I ain't skeered to go to Peckerwood one day this week though.
I fished peckerwood Sat. Caught 26 crappie with minnows in 1 - 3 ft of water. Water temp was 58 deg. Half were females, half were males. All were nice size. My fish basket with 26 Crappie weighed a little over 50 lbs. Hung a few yo-yos saturday night but only caught cats. It should be ON in full force for the next few days, the water temp will rise very quickly there.
I guess I will have to rethink my plans on going to Lake Conway this week now. Maybe the rain won't mess things up too bad.
If the rain doesn't muddy it up too bad, I will try it Sunday afternoon! If not there, will try Gator Pond again at Dagmar. I will give a report either way.
Well, now that we got some answers for Peckerwood, what about Merrisach? Did anyone fish Merrisach this past weekend? I know there were a few talking about going.
I never made it to Merrisach like I had planned, but me and a buddy did pretty good on a private reservoir. The water was 58 degrees and the fish were in 3 foot of water. We kept 42 and they weighed 53 lbs.
Looks like there's plenty of catchin' going on over that way. Can't wait to head that way in a few weeks...
does anyone know how the rains affected peckerwood? been dyin to go. may try fri. or sat.
It rained 2" in DeWitt and a little bit more than that in Stuttgart. I am sure that the rain raised the water level a little and made it muddy.
wonder how long it'll take to straighten back up?
