Has anybody heard anything about Peckerwood lately. I am heading over there this weekend to give it a try.
Only report that I have heard was from a couple of guys running yoyos, and they had a pretty good weekend 2 weeks ago. I am going to try and get over there real soon. I have had some great trips there(if you can find um). Ready for them to get up in the brush!
Had a buddy go over there about 3 weeks ago. Only caught a couple scattered out in the middle around that cane. This warm weather should put em up there. May go try it Saturday.
Have ya'll ever fished the place place in August when the water is low(from pumping up the fields from no rain)? If you can find the side channels, which are only 5-6ft deep, you can catch some nice ones!!! But, that is later, I am ready to catch the big ones moving up into the brush! Anyway, last year was the first year that I saw alligators almost everytime that I went. It was fun to watch them!
Lookin' forward to any reports from this weekend. I heard from an unreliable source "da Goocher" that cooler fulls have been coming out of there.
Just got back from peckerwood. Out of 3 boats I think the total was 15. Caught some back in the brush. I hope this cool week doesn't screw em up. It should be hot in a couple weeks
WOW!!! I couldn't buy a fish out there this weekend on a rod. I caught 2 craps and 2 cats on yo-yo's on Friday, and about the same on Sat. Wind was terrible everywhere I went, seemed like it followed me and just wanted to screw me up.
Not much better on the pvt lake in NLR, but did managae a couple on poles and minnows on Sunday.
My neighbor was down at Peckerwood all weekend and also said the pole fisherman didnt do sqaut but the yoyo's produced a few fish for him. Think he put up 5 bags of crappie and 8 of catfish.
Is there a place to set up a small camper around Peckerwood anywhere?
I fished Peckerwood Friday, Sat and Sun. We pole fished during the day Fri and Sat. Caught 1 Drum out of 2 days of pole fishing. MAN, that was slow. Hung Yo-Yo's at night and caught cats and a few crappie. Cleaned somewhere around 50 fish. Probably half and half catfish and crappie. Most of the Crappie were good size (1 -2 lbs.)
I don't think that they have moved to the brush yet, but couldn't find them in the deeper water either. This cold spell should hold them off for another couple of weeks. Hopefully I will be able to get back down there soon and give a report.
Also, I believe that it is $30 a night on weekends at both Herman's and Red Barn IF you can get a spot. Hope this helps!
