please excuse my ignorance but would someone tell me what spider rigging and tight lineing is. if there is a difference? how do you rig it.I am old school here.I use basic ole pole with cork and minnow in shallow water brush and want to learn how to do these things i read about yall doing on here.

Spider rigging is just trolling. At Nimrod for years we spider rigged shallows with corks to set the depth. Alot of spider rigging is done tight linning also.Quote:

thanks alot for the info ceb.Just a couple more ?.Do you use the big sinkers when spider rigging and what type of sinker do you use that big(how is it attached to the line)and how is it rigged is the jig on the bottom and the sinker up above the jig or vise versa?
I like what CEB did in stating all the various names for the same things. Some of it is just regional vernacular. I've always thought of spider rigging (slow trolling) is multiple poles in rods holders slowly trolling (pushing) an area. I call tightlining a single pole in hand with jig only. That is my favorite way of fishing. However, if you sneak around the lake this spring no doubt you'll find me pitching a minnow in the shallows under a cork. I like that basic old style too, especially when you want to hold that bait in one spot long that you can a jig without a float.
I would have to say CEB is our state expert on spider rigging. Bobberwatcher is gaining on him though. I ain't got the patience to deal with the wind as they do. Darryl and Jerry have a method they call "hovering". It is effective for them. They have both schooled me on it. But, again, if the wind is up even just enough to ripple the water, I would just as soon be anchored and casting to a known brush pile and let the wind drift my presentation across it.

Hovering is quite a beautiful art. So much of an art that I will let Darryl or Jerry explain as they are truly the experts. As far as me gaining on ol ceb with my spider riggin, I think I fair pretty well for my league, which is little league. Ceb is in a completely different league than I! Hovering is kinda like slow trolling sideways back and forth in a limited area. Literally, "hovering" over or around a single brushpile. All the fishing is done out of the right side of the boat either tightlining jigs pole-in-hand or minnows under slip floats in rodholders. Use the trolling motor to constantly control and position your boat and push or pull your baits into position around the brushpile/crappie condo based on what you see on your sonar. Jerry calls it the dining room. Use your gps to get you on the spot and marker bouys if needed as a reference to the exact location of the cover. Watch your sonar to determine the location of fish and how deep the crappie are holding. Work that spot thoroughly. When done, gun to another. Have a portfolio of spots and even if you only get one or two per spot by the end of the day you have a nice mess of crappie. The keys are using your electronics effectively and boat control.
