Wonder why they don't make a side image D.F. without the GPS? or map.
Would (or should ) be cheaper & all of us don't need the GPS. Just a thought too much time on my hands :D

You can kinda get it without those features, but my question would be how you gonna find what you find?Quote:

Because when you see it on the SI you can stop the picture, move the cursor over the top of it and mark it with a waypoint. Otherwise you have to go trolling around aimlessly with your regular sonar to find it. That thing shoots 240ft. off each side of the boat. That's alot of ground to be covering and time wasted if you can only fish on the weekends.

Crappiehound is right, SI is almost useless if you cannot use the GPS with it! The 797 is very reasonable compared to other units without SI! You really have to see one in action on the water to really understand and respect their ability!
You don't haveta buy the gps receiver or the navionics maps. But it would be like duck hunting with a bb gun.Quote:

Didn't mean to confuze ya. I got a 797. It is slick as gum scum. I sure like using it or playing with it (whichever comes first).
What I want to know is............with all that looking when you got time for any fishing?!? :D :) :D
I use the old Ronald Ragean principle. Trust but verify.
I trust my self enough to know where the "stuff" is, but I use the magic box to verify it.
While you SI'ers are looking at your screens trying to read and work the machine I'll be pulling in the slabs using the traditional way..fishing for them...
And while your catching big slabs, I'll be scanning under your boat and marking the spot. LOL! I don't have mine yet but will.

How detailed is the side scan? Are u actually able to see your lure if you've cast 30 ft or so from the boat? would u be able to see your jigs if you were trolling or spiderrigging?
How is this? This bunch of crappie were under the boat. And if your out say 175 ft from me. I can still see them. LOLQuote:

So is the sonar showing the fish like it were a camera looking down, or should I be turning my head to the left and looking at it that way? I'm looking on the right side of the line in the middle.
tilt your head the light part is bottom and the dark is the water column, I think from what I've read about them on this forum
ok basically you see the fish you can move pointer on it it will tell you how many feet it is from you.. like say that school was 80 foot to the right. you would have neverseen them with any other unit unless you were on top of them... the screen splits the middle right is right, left is leftQuote:

Check out this site for more great photos and advice about SI.

I think if you don't belong to the users group you won't be able to get in. Some one correct me if I'm wrong. I already do so can't test it.

You are right. You gotta join the group. Be a groupie. I am. Lots of good SI stuff.Quote:
