gold creek report2/2/08
this week not much to report few fisherman, with a couple small catches, but today a different story 4 limits good keepers with a couple slabbers.now as good as this sounds there was that many that did not do that well.carhart bib man caught 15 this morning 6am-10:30am.its seems to be that the fish are suspended 3'-6'.hitting orange and chartreuse jigs tipped with small shiner or rosey, and also tipped with crappie nibblet. hitting very light.you really have to pay attention.other colors silver and white, all chartreuse with a red head.2 other boats had 6-8 fish.

Thanks for the report, Dan. I'll be seeing you early in the mornin'. Be sure to tell those crappie to stay put 'till then...
-
Sunday 4PM 4 fellers come out earlier with average 15 fish, several still out ill finish report later, gotta go fish

Ended up with 15 good fish today. Fished about 4.5 hours this morning and found them to be really active early. Fish (which I think were actually crappie) were bustin' shad on the surface. I was catching the crappie about 1-2' deep out over the deeper water in the middle of the pool and as the day progressed, they moved to about 3-4' deep. White bass and yellow bass were right on the bottom. The crappie were absolutely hammerin' the smaller rosies. Tried jigs (without too much effort) and regular shiners, but it was clear that they wanted the rosies. The bite was fast and furious for a little while, then started to slow some. Came to the house, cleaned 'em, and fried up a big mess. Still had a quart of fillets for the freezer. These are sure enough hard times...not because of the cooperation of the fish...but rather time to fish. Oh well, that's my report. Sorry for the lack of pics, but today really wasn't camera-friendly weather. Dan can back up my story...;)

Good report CEB. I am fired up about heading down there again. I had a good time last Feb, even if it was coldddddddd.
-
CEB, I sure wanted to go yesterday. My wife invited people over for the ball game, and I had to cook gumbo. I had rather been there with ya. I won't be able to go this week, but they ought to be great this week.
We have had a warm rain, good warm wind today, high temps, and all of that means warmer water. The fish should be REAL active.

Hey Dan, what seems to be the magic bait for all those crappie coming out?
-
well guys still panning out to be the best week so far!yesterday i saw 2 limits and 2 guys in 1 boat had 31,they are catching them from 1ft to 10ft.all chartreuse.......get more info if you come out.saw at least 1 limit on thursday.wednesday was the only day i havent seen fish.wind blowing, spitting ice-1man lasted about 2hrs -1 fish.as i was saying now crappie have bit 6 days straight.sportsman001 was here late in the afternoon yesterday i think he got at least 6 slabbers just for 1-2 hrs before dark.
-
Wasn't there very long, but I was able to get some pretty nice ones. Like Dan said, the wind was blowing, spitting rain and man was it cold. Especially after you get your hand out of a minnow bucket.... Those were some of the nicest quality crappie I've gotten in a long time. HUGE filets. Thanks again Dan for the info!

Well, after fishing this morning, I have a new name for the pool......I'm going to start calling it the parking lot. At one time this morning, there were between 23 and 26 boats in there. It was definitely slower than it had been last week. For the most part people were very respectful and sportsman like. You did have a few who wanted to motor with their big engines right up on you. I guess someone has told someone, that told someone and told someone else. At one time it looked like you could almost step from boat to boat. But that's the way it goes. Got 3 keepers, lost one nice one and caught a small yellow bass. I did notice some people catching some real nice smelly shad..... But it was a beautiful day and was nice to be on the water.:D
-
yesterday was a tough day,i guess it was too pretty for the fish to bite well.out of 30+ boats only a handfull did well.some guys that had been catching their limits had only caught 10-12 fish.carhart bib man said he could not fish his regular spots left out with 3-9:30am.he did verify friday afternoon he and a buddy caught 28 with one at 2-1/2 lbs.today alot less crowd 12 boats will give report later
-
I hate to even imagine that many folks packed into the pool. That many folks in that tight of an area...there's bound to be some chit going on. There's definately lots of big ol' gooduns in the pool this year and I guess the word has spread...
-
yeah, had a fish panic rush-some one telling a buddy who tells a buddy......today cut back on boats 15 all day.i only talked to about 6-8.know of 4 boats tht did fairly well.i caught 4-1 hr before dark.2 real nice slabs 1 3/4 lbs.one man fishing under iron bridge told me he had his limit.a very trusted regular.over all it has been another more or less, slow day.
-
yesterday a friend of mine caught 15 fish in the morning, then came back caught 15 more in the afternoon, with 1 at 2lbs 6ounces.another guy had his limit, and another had a bucketful looked like a limit.another man came out frustrated he could not catch any although seeing fish being caught.after talking to him he told me if he couldn't catch them 1 ft deep under a bobber that he gives up.well the way these guys are getting them right now is vertical jig bounced off the top of their head!and jig or minnow under a bobber at different depths,3' on average, he would not change his technique.the crappie are there with selective biting.they were the only ones fishing yesterday.today the lake has plenty of fresh water,up 10 inches.2 guys could not get more than 5,quit early.nothing but the facts!!
