cajun red is ok if you don't do any night fishing. when it gets dark that stuff disapears, and you'll miss a lot of bites. Just my two cents. I like mr crappie hi-vis.
I have had good luck with 4# Fireline Crystal on ultra lites and 8# Crystal on my med. outfit.. It acts a little stiff at first, but the more I use it the better I like it. My other line is the 6# WM Hi-vis
I have tried a lot of different lines, but nowadays theres so many people trying to sell you the best line,i dont know which one is are what color is or what weight to use. I just make sure i keep my line fresh, thats whats most important to me NOW.sorry i couldn't help.
I use Sufix Siege.
nt
Trilene is a good line. A lot of people like the cajun red, but I didn't care for it too much. It is stronger, but it had too much memory for me and seemed to twist a lot worse.Quote:

6# Trilene XT Clear here, but I plan on trying the Mr. Crappie High Vis Yellow this year.

P-Line Flourocarbon
i use p-line xxl 4 and 6 lbs test it's got great feel and it's very strong. i use it when i'm bass fishing to but i use 6 and up for the bass. however i've caught some nice 3 and 4 lbs on the 4 lbs test a few times while crappie fishing. it's great stuff i'll never use anything else.
I like Sufix Elite.
Mr Crappie HIGH VIS YELLOW in 8lb or Stren HIGH VIS YELLOW in same pound.
I use suffix elite. It comes in several hi-vis colors and the pound test is severly underrated. 6lb is all you need. I use yellow and the best part is - $7.50 for 330yds. I bought some based on the reviews on Cabelas.com and I will say it does live up to the reputation. Very little memory and great strength.

I use line from BPS, yellow in color and about $5 and change a big spool. I like it as well as stren and it's lots cheaper. 4 and 6 lb both work real well.
I'm not a big fan of the cajun red to hard to see.
I like Stren high vis gold.
Look for a copolymer line. There are several out there, but head and shoulders copolymers trounce regular monos in every category unless you like lines that stretch. They don't absorb water therefore the line properties don't change when wet. Superb knot strength. Very low stretch nearly at superline levels. They stay strong when scratched and nicked. Very very strong in comparable diameters. They last indefinitely as far as I can tell. I purchased a 1/4 spool of Sufix Promix 4-5 years ago and I'm just getting to the bottom of the spool. The line is still as strong as it was when it was new. The line still amazes me after all these years. The particular brands I recommend are super limp. I started with PLine which I loved until I did some research and found copolymers that were thinner and limper than PLine with all the amazing strength of PLine. I found Pline exhibited about the same coilyness as regular monos, but was way stronger and stretched much less. Those 2 brands are Gamma and Sufix Promix. They are almost the same except for an advantage for each line. Gamma is slightly more limp, in fact its the most limp line I have ever used while still being as strong as the strongest non superlines. Promix has all those qualities and is super inexpensive, about 12 bucks for a 1/4 lb spool at www.bubbajackstackle.com.
There is one more line that I have not tried that interests me primarily because its copolymer and its made in the US. That is McCoy. www.mccoyfishingline.com I think I may test that line this year and order a 1/4 lb spool instead of another spool of Promix. Though I'll order another spool of promix anyways, just because its so cheap and I run into people so often that need new line. I just give it away. I have probably given away 1/3 of my original promix 1/4 spool over the last 4-5 yrs and I may have just one more reels worth left on the spool.
In short - go copolymer - you won't regret it.
Oh one more thing. If high visibility is an issue with you check out the other Sufix copolymers with high vis properties at bubba jacks and also McCoy makes a Fluorescent line too. I wish Gamma made a Fluorescent.
I've been using The Mr. Crappie for a couple of years, but before that I would use Trilene XL in the clear blue color.
I use BPS Excell on multipole rigs due to affordability $23 for 9000 of 6lb. ! I like Berkley Sensation on rods I hand hold or cast.
How quick before you start noticing memory on the Ice line?Quote:

I've spent a fortune on line and have a closet full of half used spools! In all of my experimentation I have settled on P-Line CXX. It comes in very few colors, but they do offer a green, a crystal clear and a hi-vis. I've used 4,6,and 8 pound. Everywhere from Ross-Barnett to Clearwater and Norfork to Old Hickory. The stumps at Reelfoot don't stand a chance with it. It is hook straightening stuff.
Mr. Crappie Hi- Vis in 6lb. for me!!
Less memory the more you use it.Quote:

Yeah I've tried some 6 in that. I even tried the pink maxima crap too. Looked real pretty, just didn't care for it. The P-Line seems to knot better, doesn't stretch too bad, and is reasonably priced. There are alot of excellent lines out there and truth be known they are probably all made by some mass producer overseas! Just put in different packages!
Grizz, I haven't used it but I checked it out at Bass Pro. It's very thick for its stated breaking strain. The 6# line was listed as .010" or .25mm in diameter. That's as thick (and thicker, in some cases) as other brand's 8# line. Six was the lowest BP had on the shelf, so I didn't get to check the 4# line.Quote:

Right now it is Mr. Crappie 4 lb. camo line. I believe it is one of the better lines out there for the price. Before that I used the Spiderwire mono, it seemed to have too much memory for me.
I rarely tightline in structure so I really like the castability of 4 lb line.
gamma does make a hi-vis gold.
Ran into some Gamakatsu line at BPS recently at $1.99 per 300 yd spool. They had not put it out yet and only had about 10 rolls total but I understood that it was some sort of promotion because they were going to start stocking it. All they had was 10 lb and 8 lb, clear, but it is a copolymer line, smooth as silk and the diameter on the 8 was the same as all of the other monos in 6. Anybody ever use this?
Anybody try the Power Pro line?
Check out www.grizzlyjig.com we got your Wally Marshall Hi-Vis or his invisible camo line and it comes on a 1/4 pound spool great line and its a great buy!!
yeah, we've discussed PowerPro many times over the last couple of years. Just do a search and you should get at least enough posts for a couple of hours of reading time :DQuote:

I have just started using Cajun Red and I have mixed feelings about it. They say the fish can't see it....well, I can't either! Only use Cajun Red if you are fishing in good light. I was fishing a covered dock behind some boats and missed some fish because I couldn't see my line when it started going sideways. Great line, works fine....just use in good light.
Yes we use it in yellow & the new red has been good for cold water in2/10.Quote:

Try some I think you will love it, alot of angler thinks it will spook the fish, Not!!! Yep I spooked 50 yeaterday and there in my freezer. Please come to Grizzly Jig co next weekend and visit we will be talking crappie!!!!
I really like the Mr. Crappie camo line. I have used the 4#. Sorry to say, that I just threw away a brand new spool of Mr. Crappie Hi Vis yellow in 6#. I was surprised how stiff it was. I put it on two rods and tried to use it. Springing off the spools. I let it out and tried to get rid of twists and such. No better. I guess the formulation is different from the camo to the hi vis. I returned home and had my son and daugther help me pull all the hi vis off. Spooled on another brand of yellow 6# and it is acting much better.
