I have come across 4 or 5 sheets of wood lattus that I have permission to take. I was wondering if I took it apart and cut the pieces into 3' sections if it would work in a big Coffee can. It would be the same as using a bucket but on a smaller scale. I would branch all the pieces out. I wonder how long the lattus would last. I could make probably at least 20 cans worth off of this lattus so what do you all think would it last through winter?
I think it'd last for years, but you might get hung on it a lot. That's the only drawback I see really. Good luck!

I think you would like it better if you ripped it apart and use it as stakes...
Sorry guys, I meant to say take it apart and make it all 3' stakes. Then put the stakes in the coffee can vertically and at an angle to bush it out. just wondering since it is only like 1/8 or 1/4 inch thick if it would last. I got some bamboo I want to throw out there too. In the lake I fish there is a good sharp 180 degree turn in the creek bed. The creek bed is 15' across and 8' deep. The lake goes from 17' till it hits the creek then it is 25'. So with this being said I have been thinking about putting Bamboo 10' high in the middle of the creek where it bends then these coffee can stakes on the inside portion of the bend up to where it goes to high ground. All in all we are talking about a 50' by 50' area. is this to much structure to put in? it will be 6 bamboo houses and about 20 coffee can stake beds.Quote:

Ok got the lattus during my lunch break and also scored some 9" PVC and some smaller 4" PVC. Thinking of using Plastic totes instead of Coffee Cans to make them a little bigger. Fill a tote with about 2" worth of cement and place in the lattus stakes. That way each one will be about 12" by 18" by 3' and maybe 10ish lbs. What do you think?

What I would do - if I had those materials, is grab a bucket or two (see if anyone around you has cats - they might by cat food in big buckets) -
Take the lattice, and pull it apart - use the pvc and the wood slats from the lattice - stand them up in the bucket and fill the bucket 1/2 way up with quickcrete - let it set, then drop it in...
With the PVC I'm going to make something like the ones MR. Patty makes. And the lattus will be used the same way you said, but made in a tote so I can take it out and re-use the tote to make more.
Well I went out and got some more material. more PVC and about 150' worth of scrap red and blue 1" tubing ( like for hot and cold water). There are a ton of construction sites here on post and am looking to get alot more material. I just might scrap the lattus and stick with the PVC. All I need now is some cement and I think I'm good to start making them. If anyone wants to throw some Pics on here of some that have been built I would appreciate it.
Smitty, check the other posts, lots of pics and great info. I'm a newbie, but in my opinion you should definately scrap the lattice in the bucket idea. Maybe nailed to a pallet sized frame and wieghted with rock would work better for the wood.
Well it's a done deal now I got bored and made them since I cant find my drill bits to make the PVC condos. Hahaha I made 4 insome flower planter buckets now I'm gonna use the rest in some Totes that I have. Since I got the material for free I'm gonna throw them out there and see what happens.
