I was at a fall festival and there were homemade fryers that people were using to fry bread and onion rings. Wonder if anyone has homemade outdoor fryer ideas on how to make one.

Don't use a homeade fryer but have a suggestion for modifying the store bought ones.
I had a friend weld some 1/2" rebar legs to mine. Raised it up to about waist level and I love it. Makes it a little harder to cook in the wind but no more bending over a hot fryer. Pic attached.
That is great, is that a turkey fryer base?
I love it, have welder will make, Thanx
Standard ole' outdoor cooker. Came with an aluminum pot and basket for deep frying.
But as you can see, I use cast iron. I think I've used the aluminum pot once.
Wally world for $35 I think.
Nice, Whats the deal with the grill?
Get hot greese on your toes if not careful! 8) Nice setup.
Your power meter is spinning really fast turn off the AC. lol J/K
Mine is all SS and holds 8 to 10 gallons of oil. I can cook for 75 people with it. And have done that lots of times.
I will try to get some pictures. But its a big 2 burner unit and a big SS pot that is about 16" wide x 32" long and even has a big steamer pot that goes with it. and a SS top.
Found one of mine in action

Ahhh. The grill! That's the ole' Fiesta grill I've had for over 6 years now. It was a gas grill in another life. It's been reincarnated into a portable charcoal grill. We mostly use it when camping but occasionally use it in the backyard for shishkabobs or BBQ cabbage. That day we made BBQ cabbage!Quote:

No pics, but I took a harrow disc and welded a 5 inch rolled band of flat steel around the edge of the harrow disc. Welded 3 pipe fittings onto the bottom to screw the pipe legs and welded brackets to hold a burner (came from one of the old chicken house brooders) underneath the harrow dish. Drilled a hole offset from the bottom of the harrow disc and put a faucet inline on the pipe welded underneath the harrow disc over the drilled hole in order to drain the grease after it's cooled in order to get the grease back into the jug to use later. Holds enough grease to cook for a decent crowd and the burner will heat the grease very quick if needed.
Its not homemade but the next fryer on my list.Saw one at the crappiemasters championship and actually was at a fish fry last week where they cooked with one.It called the cajun Fryer and boy is it slick.PJ
Know where a used one is for sale. But it in Ga. That will also be my next cooker.Quote:

Best fryer I every had I built using an oil pan from a Mack truck engine (Iam a diesel mechanic) Used the full metal pan not the cast stuff. Built legs for it and a bracket to mount a burner from an old tobacco barn. I put expanded metal over the shallow end of the pan and made a drain rack. The oil would run back into the pan. When finished cooking and oil had cooled just turned the ball valve I installed into the drain plug and drain grease back into jug. Worked so good somebody decided to relieve me of one night. Working on building a combo smoker fish frying trailer setup that will have gas, wood and charcol heat. Bout got it laid out.
That sounds pretty neat. Got a pic?Quote:

If you use peanut oil and strain it after each use it will last along time, over a year. It doesn't need to be refrigerated. The grease doesn't spoil, the impurities in the grease will spoil. Just pick up a small metal mesh strainer at Walmart.
freeflow 23 ................I'm rolling on the floor also........crazy.
