My Set-up, compact and portable! (Pics)

I started making my own hair jigs a while back mainly for the convience of being able to have what colors I wanted to fish, and the fact that I just enjoy doing it as well. But when I got started I had a heck of a time keeping everything organized. Always having to spread it all out on the kitchen table like this:

So I got to thinking of a way to make it organized and easy to set up and put away in just a few min. It took a little doing but I came up with a design that worked for me. As a bonus it made it very easy for me to take it with me on weekend fishing trips or anywhere I choose. Which I might add saved me once when I left my tackle bag at home:eek: , but I just set up my little assortment right there in the cabin and tied up a few colors for the next morning. Here is a pic of the Jig Tying Case I built:

Next I had to place all my goodies in it and here is a pic of it with all that stuff you seen spread out on the table:D

I have all my supplies there at my reach and the vise just flips up into position and tuck backs away when I'm done. I have been using it for about a year or more now and it work great. I do have some new idea if I decide to build any others. I hope that maybe this will give some of you ideas as well. I actually made 2 cases and give one to my good buddy Mo'nBack there is a pic of the 2 cases:

He and I have considered making up some of these Jig Cases and supply just what one would need to get started. We are going to check into what it would cost to set-up the complete deal and we may have a few for sale in the future if there is any market for it.
I sure would like to hear any comments, ( good or bad ) or any suggestions or ideas any of you may have to add.
I think this is a good forum and a great place for a beginner to get started or for a veteran to learn new ideas. I hope to post more soon!:D

Great idea and concept. They make a fly tying table that the trout guys use that is awesome. Maybe if you combined the best things of the two, you would have a hit on your hands, not saying that there is anything wrong with what you have built already. Here's a idea..a place to fasten your vise besides your kitchen table, like on the box itself. If you built it so it was toward the back of the box itself, you could rest your elbows on the front of the box and save some of your shoulders and back...lol. On the fly tying table I mentioned before it has a drop in the surface to catch all your trash and clippings. I always thought that was a good idea. A place to hold the head cement jar, cause lord know's I have knocked a few over in my day. That is just a few of the things that come to mind. I really like your box but I would need one as big as Davey Jones Locker to put all my stuff in...lol. I have filing cabinets full of feathers and hair...lol. BUT I KEEP EVERYTHING...:D

very nice boxes, put me on the list. I wish I could make something like that but just dont have the wood skills.. really, let me know if you decide to start offering them.

That is one sweet setup. I could use something like that. if you ever get to making them with all the goodies you need to get started with i would buy one in a heart beat

Great idea, and good woodworking. That would be great for traveling.

That is a very neat concept you have with your "JIGACASE"


I used to tie on the kitchen table and it looked like yours. Now I tie on the back porch just so I don't have all the mess in the house. Nice idea.

Good Looking cases! I think you can sell them and maybe since you seem to be good at wood working you could add a hackle cabinet to the choices. They make them now, but no reason you could also make some.

Ship I like the jigacase idea catchy phrase:D Who knows what may come of it, would be neat to have a product out there of my own:D ..For now I will work on improvements to the idea and soon maybe we can get a few into circulation :D

Are you still pursuing building these cases?

Man, I'd be interested in buying a case. Not necessarily with all the materials in it, but depending on the price I'd be willing to buy the whole shebang. I have at least two friends who would probably be rather interested in something like that as well. If you DO decide to make some to sell, be sure to hit me with a PM. Those cases look really awesome.

I don't think he realized as many people would be interested in buying one when he posted. I think we scared him off. But in all seriousness, that is one of the finest looking cases I've ever seen. As soon as he decides to shoot us a price, I'll know how much I need to save up to get one. I just hope he didn't see how popular they'd be and keel over with a heart attack in disbelief. Hope he gets back to us soon with more details.

Well ya'll did it...you got me back in here to see what the heck was going on. I have been getting PM after PM about the Jig Tying Case. I can see now that the old post found its way back to the top of the pack.:D

You are right I didnt really think that folks were that serious about buying the Jig case. No-one scared me away, I just never took the idea and run with it. I am not even sure where to start as far as setting a price. I did spend much time on the project but now that I have the general pattern and layout, it would be simple enough to get a few of these made up and ready to go, and it wouldnt take near the time it took to come up with the original idea.

Give me feedback on what you think would be a good starting price or what you feel would be a fair price that you would be willing to pay for a case like these. I will get a cost on materials and time and see how that works out in comparison. It may be that I can make a run on these and see how they sell and if it would be profitable.

If I see that this works out.....here is what I have in mind. I will build a said number of theses Jig Tying Case's as a test run. Once finished I could post pics of the identical case's and price. For those of you who have inquired about the Jig tying Case, I will give you first opportunity on the purchase if you so wish. These Jig tying Case's will all be as identical as possible. Also my design is formed around the AA Vise. This vise is inexpensive at only $11.95 plus shipping from the supplier I used. This will be included in these first run Jig cases. If all goes well and the idea is accepted and well liked then we could go from there as far as adapting other style Vise into this Case.

Ladies and Geltlemen, I think we have a winner. I'll be watching this post carefully to see when he gets some done and what price he'll be asking. But for a starting price, I think $5 would work to the first person to post after you last post....guess that's me... WOO HOO ! ! ! But seriously, I'm not sure what your price should be. You have to take materials, labor, and just overall handiness of this case into consideration. The only think I'm afraid of, is once you figure out a price, I won't be able to afford it. Because that really is one damn nice looking case man. Hope you sell a hunnerd of em. Good luck to you. And if the price is right, I will be looking to buy one of these from you. Just have to wait and see what you set the price at.

I priced materials today and I will work on the labor end of that deal and have a price soon to post here. Not sure about $5 deal, but heck I dont see why a raffle wouldnt work in the near future. I think we could arrange to place one of the JIG CASE's up for a Raffle. Might give someone a chance to get into on pretty cheap, and still leave a small profit for myself...we will have to see about that...not sure how that idea would fly on this forum.

Just keep checking back on this thread and soon we will see how this works out!

nice looking cases. but do your self a favor get yourself a patent. before some one else swipes your idea and they go into the big stroes. that way you will be coverd if they do swipe your idea

I have tough toes Jack! Build away:D My box's are custom made from my ideas and I am sure yours will have your own personality too. I would like to check into getting this thing protected for my rights (patent), but I certainly cant see where you have to ask my permission to design your own style, no need to copy mine to the tee:D

I am in the process of getting all my materials together, so yes I will have some coming out in the near future, working on it in my spare times so cant set a time for you guys, but hopefully not too far off. Thanks for all the comments and support:D Keep an eye out for a post here on the jig forum when I have some updates on the progress.

To keep it simple that price includes the vice you see that I used in my original Box, it has to be custom fitted to fold down out of the way and to offer multiple type vise would be too much headache for me. Its a simple desing that works well so I stick with what I got:D

I build a lot of custom stuff when I find its interesting. You really cant get a patent for wooden boxes as I cant get a patent for making custom poker tables. If I decide to start making my own jigs the box will follow. But I dont run over people to get there. Let me know on the boxes...Jack

And like I said, I am working on new boxes and I do have plans to sell some from my design. Also as I mentioned there is no need to ask my permission unless you are considering replicating my idea and moving in on the intrested parties at hand. I have no quarrel with you making a design of your own, as I am sure yours will generate as much interest as this one has.

Patent or no Patent, its just not good bussiness to move in on a thread and make an offer like that. If you would like to sell your ideas, we all would love to read about it in your post. As we all can see you do fine work. This to me is just not the right approach to take.

This is my interpetation of what you are asking me.... hey you have a good idea and I can see there are lots of folks eager to buy one and a chance to make some money..can I jump in here and make some if you dont mind.

I look forward to seeing you post and your design and some of your work.

As for all intrested parties...I will have new boxes to offer soon! I am not trying to be rude here, but only to defend what has become a popular post of a design that I created. I hope other designs follow and people can take what I have done and make it into their own. However, I feel that I needed to stress to Jack, that I am positively in the process of fullfilling the demand and request of the all members who have contacted me.

Me too Dale! I also like to be able to take all my stuff wherever I go. Thats why I made the Jig Tying Case. Its comfortable to use anywhere, its completely portable, and I can keep all my stuff in one place and not leave anything behind.

Here is a perfect example!
We hold our Fall Gatherings over on the Louisiana Forum and Larto Lake is one of the big events each year. Well in all the packing and getting ready...When I arrived at the Lake for the Gathering..I realized that I had left my Main tackle bag behind back at the house...I was jigless:eek:. But lucky for me, I had brought along my Jig Tying Case:D That evening I sat down and prepared fresh jigs to fish with the next morning. Saved me from having to be a complete bum for the weekend:D

Treefrog the only thing I'm looking at is the original discussion from 11-09-07 to 11-11-07. If you want to make the boxes I have no interest. But...Make the boxes. Its been almost 2 yrs. I understand its a side interest. I just wanted to make the boxes so the fellers could have em. Other than that I dont care to persue it....
