What is best, the vinyl type head paint or the powder coat? I have been using the vinyl, and it seems to hold up pretty well, and easy to use. Is the powder harder to use and more expensive?

I use the powder coat,it works well there is a little more process steps with it but it makes the jig look very good
I use powder paint works really well. It also holds up better then vinyl paint.
powder paint all the way. But I have not found a good blood red color in powder yet. Does anyone know of one and where?
Powder is the only way to go. Less mess, better coverage, and harder finish (if you bake it). It really isn't more expensive. The powders go a long way.

i like paint not any paint INDUSTRIAL ENAMEL W/ POLYCLEAR COAT then baked..
hard finish will last stand up to the constant banging against rocks..
how many times have ya had to bust the powder coat off the eye of a jig
just to tie now think about doing that at midnight with yer stern light

if they are painted right, you never have to take the paint out of the eye.
you also don't have the smell that vinyl has either!
GANNON,
yer right !!!!!!!!!
i don't consider powder as paint..
i'll hear about that one for a while!!!!!!
IT'S A COATING
but besides that if ya go into a tackle shop and look at the jigs most of them have eyes that are full of coating or paint either way,,,,
thats the sign of a HACK
ANYONE THATS TIES/SELLS JIGS OF QUALITY NEVER EVER LEAVES THE EYE COVERED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PISS POOR QUALITY = PISS POOR PERFORMANCE

I am just starting to paint my own jig heads, but I have a few questions for the "Masters". I really enjoy this forum for helping me and my friends. I have been painting with vinyl paint but like others have said the smell is awful. I bought some red powder paint and the first jig I did was wonderful. But the rest are really bad. I am using a disposable lighter on low setting to heat the jigs. But I am getting pitting and the powder not holding on to the jigs.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
Aaron
You might make yourself a rack that'll fit in your oven to hang the heads on and bake them. Baking them makes the finish "flow" and will do away with the pitting, which is probably caused by the head being too hot when it's dipped in the powder. Baking the finish will also make it tougher. No paint will adhere to the lead without using an etching primer first. The best you can do is to make the powder coating as tough as possible and hope for the best. It will still peel off the lead, but when baked it comes off with slower.Quote:
