Hello everyone, this is my first post and it's good to be with fellow crappie fishermen/women.
Do anyone have a scent formular that works consistantly, and/or do you have your own ingredient for attracting crappie to your boat, dock or pier?

Welcome to the board fisherman! Essence of Minnow!
welcom from Kentucky! I use Berkley crappie nibbles
Welcome from North Texas. I use anything that they will bite on lol.
Welcome from Missouri....Berkley crappie nibbles for me.
Welcome from Ohio (The Buckeye State). I've been working with some cod liver oil here lately and it seems to do the trick. Don't put plastics in it and leave them for days at a time, the plastic turns rock hard. I learned this one the hard way. I'm glad I only had about ten of them in there, so it wasn't a huge loss! I had quite a time finding the cod liver oil, not everybody has it, and if they do it's in capsule form. I found it at CVS. Good luck!!:)
Power Nibbles for tubes or if you have solid plastics Berkley has a Crappie scent you can place on it as well that I do well with.
Minnows:d
Welcome, I`ve never try using a scent. I`m a minnow and jig man myself, but up for anything that catches crappie. (So I`ll keep up with this post)
i use this shad gel with flakes i got from this place called designer lures ..http://www.designerlures.com/
this might sound weird but the cinnamon and sugar got my biggest crappie this year a 2lb plus slab
great company they will basically make whatever you want how you want it and not overly pricey....and no imnot affilliated with them..just like the product
DKR, I've always been a minnow and jig man myself. Until this year. Those nibbles are amazing. I've even started putting them on a stright hook with a minnow, and there's times it seems like they want a nibble when they won't hit a minnow. I'd never have believed it, but try them and tell me what you think.Quote:

Nibbles and the Bait Pump!
Thanks y'all. All this info is great so let's keep it coming, we can really help each other out. I'll definately try the nibbles, cod liver oil and/or combinations of herring, clam, craw and fish oil.
Heard about this last night on a show called Whitewater. He uses something called ANISE OIL. Said you could pick it up at most pharmacies OTC. Something the old timers used.
Welcome from Alabama. You'll get lots of good ideas here.
Old Ship
Nibbles and B.A.N.G. shad formula
I always have a few minnows with me just in case. I sometimes cut one up and place a small piece on the hook with the jig.
drfishjd I`ll give nibbles a shot thanks for the info.Quote:

I went fishing at lake West Point, Ga. last friday and started experimenting with different things, and to my surprise I came across something that really worked well. I mixed some "chum n get it" with some cherry flavored cod liver oil and shad fish scent. Although the water level is very low, I caught 28nice size crappies, and threw several smaller size ones back.
I use maggots and nibbles.
Anyone use nitro crappie gems? I have a couple jars just wanted to know what others thought of them.Thanks.

Old thread but since it has been revived, I am really liking the Bobby Garland sauce. Stuff dont come off very fast.
I use nibbles also. Been meaning to order some Gewbers
I use 1/2 of a crappie nibble that has been tempered. Tempering helps keep the nibble form falling off the hook.
I also have had some luck with power wigglers. The wigglers are cut into 4 quarters and 1 quarter added to the lure. The small pieces do not distract from the lure action.
I look at it this way, the lure attracts the fish and the added scent seals the deal. No live bait to mess with.
When this thread was started, you could very reasonably ask, "What's an iPhone?".
I used to work at a candy plant years ago, Anise oil is basically licorsch (not spelled right) flavor, I know the cat fishermen at work would use it for catfish, and I used it in a wheaty ball mix for carp. I will stick to Berkleys crappie nibbles nowdays
WOW this is a dusty thread 2007' who knew? oh yeah what is a I phone?
Crappie nibbles.
Berkley Gulp Brand crappie nibbles all day long ......
Glo White is my favorite ....don't leave home without em ....
For Crappie, I use Chartreuse glow nibblets only, my plastics already have powdered squid scent in them.
When I use hard baits I use PRO-CURE scents.
Tried them all, Crappie Nibbles is the best by far.
Just goes to show that throughout time this has been a topic of discussion for fishermen.:biggrin
Welcome from Toledo Bend. I use some stuff called "Smelly Jelly" on my custom tied jigs. It comes in several favors, but the garlic and baitfish work the best for me. Tight lines.
When I'm fishing vertical I usually use crappie nibbles. I use Gewbers when casting which is 90% of the time, haven't found anything that holds up while casting like them.
