Put moisture on them like water they will turn as you let jig heads lay around for a long period of time like more than a year or so they will turn all by their self to a dull gray, putting water. They will leave a powder like mildew on them, which you can go ahead and paint over them with the powder paint, but that’s all you have to do either put moisture on them or let them lay around for a year or two.
I wonder if a dip in vinegar or lemon juice would do it faster.
Slap some matte gray paint on them.
Let them sit on the back porch a few days.
Dip em in water then hang to dry. Theyll be gray in a few hours assuming they are lead.
After reading more I'd avoid the vinegar too. Water, light and humidity should do it pretty quick.
Soaked some in water for about 30 minutes last night then layer them on a paper towel to dry.
This morning they’re still shiny .
Might try some wd40 . But then I’d have to rinse them in soapy water.
I’ve been coloring them with a big Sharpie . It wears off quickly , but they’re dull after that .
That might be the easiest thing to do.
Nah the easiest thing to do is buy matte or flat powder paint. Sharpie is probably the most convenient though.
Every time i fish with a raw jig it dull quickly from the water. Has to be pure soft lead though, any zinc and they will stay shiny for a long time it seems.
Be careful with acids or solvents, theyll remove the varnish from your hooks and cause them to quickly rust
If you're in that big a hurry, why not paint them grey? You're doing a whole lot of work for something that will happen naturally if you leave them alone.
You could also pinch them between two pieces of wood screwed together, so only the heads are exposed, then spray with rustoleum gray primer
How about a candle or alcohol burner and hold them close enough to be in the soot? I have boiled water using candles and the soot didn't come off for anything.
