Fav floats for distance?

I have to fish from the bank mostly.
My primary distance float is a clear casting bobber filled with hot glue instead of water. I fill them about half way so I get great distance and the fish feel very little resistance.
Visibility is a real issue doing this even painting the float bright colors.
I have weighted some stick floats and get okay distance but nothing compared to the casting bobber.

That's my go to float. Not sliding but easier to swap out for a smaller or heavier version.

So what is everyone's favorite distance float and any thoughts on maybe making mine more visible?

I have made some from wine corks, turning them on a bench top drill press and shaping with sandpaper. then putting BB sized split shots top and bottom in the cork to balance them. That way if a crappie hits the bait coming up, the cork will lay over, yet the added weight gives more distance on the cast.. If you use a solid stick through the cork, a small piece of appropriately sized rubber fuel line for a engine powered remote controlled car can peg your line to the stick, or you can get some hollow plastic tubing like from Hobby Lobby and make a slip float...pic will follow.

I havent tried them yet, but I hear rocket bobbers do really well for distance casting.

Long ago we used to take round cork floats and file the hole out to where we could push a torpedo sinker through. That gave you an eyelet to tie to top and bottom. Those would cast really well.
Before the days of the styrofoam weighted bobbers, Betts used to market a round plastic weighted bobber. Those cast a lot better than the styrofoam that are so popular now. I can't find them nowadays but I did find some put out by Eagle Claw. They're not as well made as the Betts but do get you out there further. They come in 1.25" and 1.50".

Have ya tried Rocket Bobbers? Google it, they are great for casting long distances. Buy Rocket Bobber Products Online - Retail, Wholesale, and Variety Packs | Rocket Bobber by Tackle 2000

For solid distance, if your pocket book can handle it , the pencil versions made in balsa perform very well , on the long ball :cheers2

I rarely use a bobber but I keep 2 casting rods set up for the grand kids with the Betts brand foam weighted bobbers. Good quality at a fair price

i do something that i learned from c.com . i use a weighted foam float that has the wire going thru it. .i unbend the bottom wire to remove the plastic seat and weight. pull out the wire . then cut the float in half. i dig out some foam on each half to put the weight or a larger weight in side . slide wire back thru and re attach bottom plastic. glue the foam sections together .having the weight is the middle helps with the UP bite as the jig will hold that end down.

Yes sir, here's a pic. There is another weight, same size on opposite side other end. Both are glued in. This one has a hoop made from a paper clip tied on the bottom. It's small enough a bobber stop is used to set depth...Attachment 513619

I think I have some of the tubed slip floats with my fishing stuff in the shed. I'll see if I can get out there Thursday and get you a pic before this storm comes in...

For adding weight, heavy guage copper wire works great. I have only wrapped it around a n end of the stick but y'all have me thinking one could drill holes and put it through the whole thing for balance and help with the uplift bite detection.

I recon you could drill all the way through as you said, just remember, ballance. What ever amount you put on bottom, must also be put on top. the weight of jig, bait, etc will keep float standing up. Fish hits hook in an upward movement, float falls over...

If you want a "weighted" float that will detect an "up bite" ... then look for Float-n-Fly bobbers/floats. Their whole purpose is to tip over when a fish rises with the jig in its mouth, taking the downward pull of the jig's weight away from holding the float in an upwards position.

Try a wobble bobber on a 8 ft rod with 4 or 6# test line, I can cast mine a really long way and can see bobber very well. If any waves at all will give bait some action.

I make these and use only these in a float required situation. The bodies are about 3/4" high with a 3/4" stem.

I found this old 3" float while getting my propane stove out of the shed, just incase of power loss, and followed the instructions on weighting it. Now this is a slotted cigar float, but it seems to have worked pretty well. For weight I used 4 1/32nd oz tube jigs with the exposed hook and eye removed. Cut float around middle, used a sharpened pencil for the holes and Gorilla glue to put it back together. Need to get in tackle box for the pegs, but it feels good. I fish with mostly 1/32 oz jigs so this afloat should not be over weighted. Can't wait to try it out.Attachment 513655
