Anyone use fish grabbers?

I got tired of fish flopping out of my hand while trying to unhook them or when I'm trying to take a photo with lure in mouth. Plus, the fish slime is annoying and calls for a towel or my pants if I forget the towel. Worse is when the get free and flop around way under the boat seat!

As I see it, the grips do the least damage to the slime coat and it's much easier to get hooks out - treble hooks included - and fish are released in the shortest time. Of course, the grabber doesn't do well with fish under 6".

Note: There are two sizes per pack and the larger size worked great on a 3 lb pickerel and 2.5 lb bass.

I’ve seen these used quite a bit in Japan on YouTube as the anglers were fishing for mackerel, I believe it’s called “aji fishing”.

At the 6:11 mark of this YouTube video, you see the angler using something similar to what “Spoonminnow” is showing.

Funny though, I have the mold for that lure in two sizes. It's one of my best lures! His presentation is exactly like what I use to impart a subtle lure action.

Note the Beetle Spin. That shape works great on the spin!
Note the thin tail added to a ribbed body - a variation of the thin straight tail.
There are many kinds of jigs that it can be rigged on. A wide-gap jig hook shown in the video is not one I would ever use - especially in weeds.
I prefer a jig hook size that comes out 1/2 to 3/4 the body length. Of course, it must be rigged straight.

I have never sold soft plastic lures I've made because I didn't think there was a market for them. What I will do is send you samples to try - n/c. A few will be rigged on light jigs as examples of what I use. All I ask is that you post some photos of your catch which I'm sure you will have.

Could have used one yesterday when I caught 11 9-14" channel cats using little hand ties. The way they never stop flopping around it was a miracle I didn't get stuck a few times.

We used them for Hard Head Catfish back in the day till the "Flippers" hit the scene. Filppers have a hook bend on the end like a commercial hook remover. Just a quick spin and the Catfish fly's off the hook. Those "Grabbers" look like a good idea as my hand gets perforated with Black Crappie fins.

not in my 68 years on the planet , god gave me 2 fish grabbers and they work fairly well ....:biggrin
on a side note : I honestly thought only women , kids and city slickers used them fish grabber device thingeez ... .....:yikes

Don’t think it would work for most fish I catch. It would be useless on those cats I have been catching. Simple solution hold the fish over an empty 5 gallon bucket. They don’t fall on the floor and get under the seats. Hold the line and a quick twist of the hook with needle nose pliers and the fish is off the hook.

I've seen advertised on FB but thought it was more of a gimmick but I guess it works. I still like to complain about the sore thumb from lipping lots of fish, but seldom get to do that anymore. LOL

Work great in The Glades fishing for Oscar and Ciclids. Those criiter have a supped up slime coat !!

Or pulled pork. lol Seriously, I use a fish gripper for walleye, mostly when fishing solo. I've never had a hook in my hand or anywhere else, and plan to keep it that way. I say anything that keeps up safe is a good idea.

do they come with them there surgeon's gloves too , in blue ? just wondering :Rofl
