A line question-I need help

I have had my fishing partners always ask me how my line(Viscous) lays so straight. Never had a problem. Well, I put the crappie boat and rods up until Fall and got my river boat going. Rods are Shimano Light action. Spooled up with the same line as my Crappie rods.
I noticed yesterday that my line cast straight, reeled in straight and all was well. Then I shot my jig in a spot that I couldn't cast to. When I now shoot, my line has a twist where it was pulled against the last eye to shoot. I have cut that much of the line off where it twist and it happens each time each time. By the way, these twist are permanent.
Now, I can pull out straight line with no twist and cast. The line is perfectly straight as long as I don't shoot.
I have never had a problem with line twist until now. Loyal Viscous user.

Sounds like there's something going on with the tips of those rods, rather than the line itself. Though, I'm not quite sure what you mean by "a permanent twist" in that one spot ?? Are you talking about a "kink" in the line, or an actual twisted section in an otherwise straight section of line ??

Check your eye for a crack if it has a ceramic insert.
I was a vicious user also till I got 2 bad spools in a row, trying P-line and Suffix high viz now.

I have a different take on this and maybe y’all can tell me if it happens to you also. I don’t care for the co polymers that I tried. I also shoot a lot. I noticed that if I pulled on the line hard, like stretching it, it will never lay straight again. Like the layers were separating or maybe the inner layer parting before the outer layer. Could it be something like this causing your issues? I know zip about that particular line.

I don't think so, Skeet. I tie my Vicious off and stretch it to loosen it up and remove any "spool coils", then reel it back under pressure thru the grass to un-twist it (if I haven't used it in awhile), and I haven't seen any detriment to the line from doing so. I still have the same 6# Vicious on my reels that've been there for three or four years (if not longer :dono).

I do the same as above except I'll leave it stretched for a couple of hours. When I release it and wind it back under tension it lays great.

Don & I think we may have an idea about "why" this is happening. It's likely the fault of the line itself, but that may also be because the line is now manufactured in India, rather than here in the USA. We've done some tests and that seems to be the most likely answer. It may be that the extruding process or even some of the ingredients in the process is slightly different, but that's only a guess.
More testing may be done to see if there's a difference between the USA made product & the India made product. I have both versions, but most of my reels currently have the USA made version on them. The one outfit I did my test on has the USA version on it, and it's been on the reel for at least 10yrs (I rarely use that outfit). When I tested it there was a small remnant "kink" in the line, but nothing like what Don showed me how his was. (pics were texted to me)
We'll get back to this discussion after further testing.

A couple of years ago I got a bad 600 yard spool of high viz Vicious line, it had weak spots in it and would break easily.
I called Vicious and they sent me 2 replacement spools, both the replacement spools were the same way.
I was a P-Line user till I got where I just couldn't see the moss green anymore, thats when I went to high viz Vicious, now that P-line makes a high viz, I am trying it out.

Another thing that I found out...I see now that the Vicious 4# test is .007 instead of .008 so something has changed in production.

any mono that gives me trouble gets stripped down to straight line and if it persists it gets respooled
it varies from brand to brand and even varies from spool to spool in the same brands
years ago vicious was some of the flattest ever stuff , but not so much anymore it seems to me :dono

A guy up around Celina, TN sells a product called Tangle Free. Someone once told me it was Octagon soap. Not sure on that. A few drops on your spool takes a lot of memory out of it. I use it, especially, the first time fishing in the spring on my bait casters and the line lays flat with no memory.

I use to work with Jeff that invented it mowing the Corps parks on Dale Hollow. Good guy. It was suppose to be three times wetter than water. I know Billy Westmorland advertised it on his show for awhile & Jeff was offered a big price for it too.
