After seeing Snake River's post of that beautiful jig, I decided to try my luck with UV glue bodies again.
Very rough looking right now. Need practice
This look is beautiful with the way the light shines through the clear body and tail. I believe it would be a good catcher.
Do you think it's worth pursuing?

I think it's worth pursuing. I like the jig Bob shared. Plus that has to be a very durable jig. :twocents
We used to make them, we use fast drying epoxy, and they worked very well. We used to catch a lot of brim. We used to tie a smaller like a 164 and we used to put a little bit of coloring in the epoxy, like what we used to color our plastic hot plastic and you could do various things with it. Also, the way you’re doing it is you could add some glitter and then just keep over coating it and you could even put paint and do the same thing you could do a variety of things with glue that you’re using, but they do catch fish like the one that you made in the picture. We use a lot of hair and Maribou.
We made up some jigs this morning, used jig inserts, and we use softex to put on the body and then we put the glitter and then the eyeballs and then we re-dipped a couple of times, but you could do the same thing using thread and wrapped a body down to a taper, and then quote it with the softex it dries super fast just something for you guys to think about and maybe mess with but you could make the clear bodies with a lot of different materials like above was mentioned. I have used UV glue in the past and it works pretty good. I haven’t tried it for a bigger size body, but I’m sure that it would work out just fine like rezz93 did above.

I'm trying to use a material called Crystal string. It's a translucent stretchy cord used in jewelry making. It's some good looking stuff with the light shining through.
So far they're not looking good but I caught a small crappie and a bluegill on one the other day. This was on a day when I couldn't hardly get a bite on anything so not a very good test.
I'll keep at it for a while and try to get something more pleasing to the eye.

Thank you for the kind words we were messing around today in the shop and you guys remember when you were kids used to make key ring out gut. I think they call it or whatever I put a picture and clothes, but we’ve been experimenting with the material. I put a couple of pictures of them in there. Also, the jigs were coded with the Softex tell you one thing after that dries you got one durable jig it just some more ideals I had and just enjoy missing around with different ideas.Quote:

Yeah, those look more like what I'm thinking about. There's a glow to the body when the light shines through. Should be an eye catcher.

That little jig looks real good. I like it because it’s transparent you could do some other things using that trio by putting crystal flash or something on the body and then wrapping it for transparent, so it would shine on through. Also, if you’re using a coding put some glitter I bought a bunch of glitter from Walmart the other day and on the pink one in the picture, I believe I use it’s a pinkish glitter.Quote:

Here's another try using clear string and glue.

I'm using Mr. Resin UV glue from Amazon. The type I have is low viscosity which makes it more difficult to get a good body shape since it runs more. I've got some high viscosity that should be here today and will likely work better for the purpose. It looks like it's available in a gallon size for $39.

Thank you for the information. We are in the future. Going to try something a little bit more or less difficult to put on a jig head like you do but more of a rounder body and I want to paint on the side of it. Also, we’re thinking about using our regular plastic and painting it and then re-definite and clear to get the same effect but I’m very interested in the UV Because you could be used to do many different things. Such I do tie flies in other stuff that we can use it for, but thank you for the information. ?Quote:

I used some glitter on a head the other day. It came out pretty well.
It appears to me that clear monofilament thread works best for the base and tying off. That allows more light to shine through.
This jig uses pink thread underneath the UV. It doesn't produce the glow like when using monofilament.

There are some plastics I painted with the acrylic leather paint and then I re-dip them in clear again, but you can use the acrylic leather paint to paint your bodies and then overcook them again with the UV. Also, you could wrap your bodies in Chanel in overcoat them with the UV glue. You will get a different look completely. I already start experimenting with soft text..

Just having fun there to see what we could do with that paint work some more on different color combinations underneath.
Use red thread on the hook shank or small red chenille and it gives a cool bleeding skeleton look
Yeah, I added some Crystal flesh wrapped around the body before adding UV glue. Came out pretty well.
I've had some mylar tubing for a long time but I've only tried it on a few jigs. I've decided to give it another try. Possibilities?

This is a high flash material and might be better for stained water, but I'll give a couple a tests to see how it does in other conditions.
With a little patience it can be flattened out and shaped into a pretty good minnow imitation. Adding flexible material at the end should make it more lively looking in the water.
It's taking a lot of trial and error to get something that might work well, but it's an interesting project.
Might as well keep at it for a while and see what works out!
