What is the number one plastic bait on the market for crappie.
My guess Bobby Garland Baby Shad and color probably Monkey Milk.
It’s either that or Crappie Magnets.
I would vote for Crappie Magnets !

I’d agree Bobby Garlands baby shad . And monkey milk is pretty much the dominant color especially around here.
They do not last like they used to so I’m in the process of getting rid of about 100 pack that I purchased over the last 2-3 years been using a local made bait the last couple years that is much longer lasting and catches as many or more fish and is half the price.
Is this the beat that you guys were talking about the cropping magnet?.

Hook in through the head and out between the gap. Tail goes on each side. Put a crappie nibbel in between. Great for spider fishing.
What size crappie magnets are you guys using?
Not really sure!! I bought a couple packs of Gary Yamamoto yrs. ago and can't find them but all my newer plastics I've traded people or they made some for me!! As far as the original beetle spin grub i finally found the only picture I have it's the one without the spilt tails.

I use to carry boxes of everything but now about all I use are Southern Pro tubes. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
These were all caught on 1 1/2" Little Hustlers last Tuesday

When it comes to popular plastic baits for crappie, Bobby Garland’s “Baby Shad” is highly recommended by many anglers. It has been a favorite for years because of its lifelike action and variety of color options, which tend to attract crappie effectively. While personal preferences may vary, many find this bait effective in different fishing conditions. Happy fishing!
This my only complaint with Bobby Garlands baby shad. For years I fished nothing but tubes and curly tails, then a friend turned me on to BG and later Crappie Magnets. Now for the most part it's all that is in my boat aside from a box of hair jigs. I'm not very good at tying jigs but the crappie don't seem to care. In the last couple years I've caught nearly as many fish on my hair/feather jigs as I Have the Bobby Garlands.
As far as color goes, in my experience it seems that our crappies preference changes every year or two. In the same conditions I have a color that I caught a lot of fish on in the winter months for a couple years, don't know that I caught a fish on it this winter. To be honest due to a lot of factors out of my control I'd didn't get to fish much either, so there is that too.
BTW, if you like the BG baby shad BPS sells one that I can't tell the difference between the two. A lot of the same colors, same amount in the bag and they feel and last the same, :scratchhead. They usually run them on sale pretty cheap early every spring.
Back before plastics ever come out for a fishing or pan fish all I had was marabou 1/32 ounce and I caught every warm water game fish. There was on the Maribou jigs like so many of the old timers that we fall back onto the old ways and we use them for a back up if the fish are not hitting anything else, I would say that Maribou is very deadly because of the way it looks in the water and with the movement it has also hair jigs are very effective. I don’t have a preference of any plastics. Maybe it’s because I make them and sell them for a sideline but if I was to pick one, it would be one of my little stingers Not the Bobby Garland style, but my own style? I started making jigs in 1963 so I have many years of experience in making jigs of course I don’t post that much on here because I like to see the newcomers come along and learn from us old guys. I am probably one of the oldest jig makers there in the US now I just turned 78 and we still do it for a sideline and I enjoy every minute of it and I welcome any questions you may have for me in making jigs or plastic..
