After the rain I decided to try Igloo pond on Redstone. Wind was crazy and the water was muddied up but still had visibility around 8 or 10 inches and the water was 64 degrees. Jig and bobber around the Lilypad edges got me a limit. Returned a hundred plus short Crappie and returned numerous gills and bass. Good day considering the conditions.

That's a nice looking bunch of fish from Igloo DB!! Congrats. Looks like they are close with those colors.
For all the lurkers, Igloo Pond is a small body of a few acres. Smaller bodies of water warm faster and typically the Crappie spawn earlier than the main lakes by a week or two. These fish are starting to get their tuxedos but the tails aren't shredded, and the eggs were not grainy or bloody yet so they're still a week or two way. The main lakes should be getting a few in the sheltered coves where there's hard bottoms and cover, typically Northeast banks are more likely. The big move is still a week or two away, if the weather holds. Late March and the first week of April has been pretty consistent since I moved here 14 years ago for the peak of the Crappie spawn.

Thanks for keeping after me on learning jig and bobber. All these fish were in three to five feet of water with grass growing one to two feet off the bottom. Nothing showed on the fish finder with down view or side view but the grass, but they would come up out of the grass to take a jig and bobber. The bite was slow, and they were biting light with most fish hooked by mistake when I move the bobber (the high winds were a nightmare), but they wouldn't take small jigs or spinners cast.

Yep, the Zworm with a 1/30oz Z-Man Micro Finesse Shroomz Jig Head. I used the same Zman worm body the last three trips fishing. I can't wait to try them for gills this summer!

I stopped at Vans in Cullman my last trip to pick up a few things. I happened to see them and grabbed a pack. But they didn’t have the head. Ended up spider rigging for about an hour and caught 5 keepers and 15 or so shorts before the wind blew me off the water. That’s the only thing they would hit. I was just using a plain jig head. Can’t wait to get the hooks. It didn’t want to stay in the plain head good.Quote:
