6'9"ultra light with x-fast tip . any thoughts ?
Must be no good . :dono
I have the 6’9” ULF Panfish series and the 7’ Panfish Light XF , both in the original Panfish series .
Both are nice rods . But don’t get a lot of use because of their length .
In the newer Panfish series , I only own rods under 6’ .
I’m not crazy about the grip and handle of the newer version of Panfish Series.
Edit : I had to go check to make sure of what I had left .
The above rods mentioned have been corrected.
I did own a 6’ 4 “ ULF but that one the tip snapped on. E and when I replaced it through warranty I upgraded to a 6’ Avid ULF . Which I still own and liked better than the 6’4” Panfish.
Love em,
I have 3 of the 6’9” I throw roadrunners with them ,and jig and cork. And swim a jig.
there a lot of fun, many bass caught as well.
i fish a very light drag and lite line.
im a longer rod guy. Have some 8’6” elixirs from phoenix. I stay away from the fish the best i can.
Mine is the Avid series . Did not know there was two different rods . No idea what the difference is except cost . Was freaking out to see bass pro shop selling what I thought was the same rod for lots less . Gillchaser 999 what is the difference .
Sounds like you have an Avid Panfish .
The Avids Panfish are made out of better materials , SCIII , with better guides and are made in the USA .
The regular Panfish Series are made out of SCII graphite and are made in St Croix’s factory in Mexico. The same factory the Triumphs and a few other lower end St Croix are made now.
The St Croix have gone up in price , even the ones made in Mexico so much that you can shop around and get some JDM rods of better quality for less than the St Croix’s. IMO and I love my St Croix rods .
I have one St Croix Avid Panfish , the 6’ model . It’s a nice quality rod , but for what I paid for it I could have gotten a Major Craft 5’6” Ajing rod and a 5’9” Palms Pinwheel UL .
These I have on order and I should have them in about a week and will post what I think of them .
The Palms Pinwheel comes in the longer lengths similar to your Avid Panfish Series, but they are around $200 each , similarly priced as the SC Avid Panfish Series.
My favorite SC rod doesn’t fall in those categories but while you’re looking I thought I would mention it. The Premier with the blue label in a 66lf 1 piece model. Awful nice but hold it before you buy, it might not be what you’re after.
Some of the differences might be where they are made. Not all St. Croix are made here; I believe my 5'6" panfish series was made in Mexico.
Keep in mind that the 1 and 2 piece rods were very different to me. Where the 1 piece weight was more in the hand, the 2 piece felt more tip heavy and slightly pulled at the top of the forearm more. I think that a lightweight 2000 series reel like maybe a Presso or Vanford would make a sweet combo.
I would probably get the BPS Carbonlite 2.0 in a 2000 size, or maybe the 1500 size. That is a Daiwa reel in disguise, and the 2000 is the same size as the Daiwa 2500. I’m not sure what size the 1500 would equate to. The Carbonlite has a shallower spool than the standard Daiwa reels so even a larger one holds less line which would be good for using something smaller like 4 pound line I think.
I’d definitely get the 1 piece rod as well. All of my rods are 1 piece. I’ll probably just go to Bass Pro and buy it rather than order it. This way I can test fit the reel before buying. If that’s not the reel for the rod then I’ll just find one while there.

Rooster, that’s a good plan. I’ve done that a few times and not regretted it. Hope you find what you’re after.
