Hey Guys, when you are crappie fishing and using a leader between your braided line and the jig, what brand and what pound test do you use? Or do you just use some old fishing line? And if so, again, what pound test do you prefer?

I use a leader that's 2-4lb less strength than my main line so I can break it off when needed.
So if I'm using 10lb braid, I will use 6-8lb fluoro-blend as my leader line.
That's just me though so I don't have to get new swivels every time I get hung up.
20-pound braid. 6-pound Gamma co polymer ultra clear.
I've only used braid/leader setups on my Pushing outfits. In those cases I would have 6# mono as a leader (and my main lines were 20-30# test).
As far as casting setups using braid, I don't use a leader. I tie my 10/2 PowerPro braid directly to the lure with an Improved Clinch knot. I only use the Improved Clinch once the braid has been used for awhile. When the braid is new & still has some slickness/coating to it, I'll use the Improved Clinch, but tie a double Overhand Knot in the tag end prior to cinching the knot down. That knot will stop the tag end from slipping thru the Improved Clinch when under the strain of fish pullage or pulling against a snagged lure.
The brand of leader line has changed several times over the years, but currently I'm using Vicious Panfish Copolymer 6# test.
Depends on how I fish, but my main line is 4-8lb Nanofil which no abrasion resistant whatsoever then I use hybrid 6lb leader. Under bobbers and cast on to cover I will add another 6-10” Izorline leader on top with swivel (smaller diameter than hybrid) just to preserve my whole bobber rig in case of breaking off.
I either use double uni or Crazy Alberto for connections knot. Uni knot for everything else.
Note: on my casting setup, i don’t care for leader, less headache, less knot.
Hands down - Maxima Ultragreen mono, 6# test - if I could only have one. It's 0.009" diameter, where a lot of 6# lines are 0.010" these days. Thin, strong, limp, great knots. And you can buy small leader wheels that are easy to keep in your box.
I'm using 15lb diawa j braid x4 main line with a 10lb. clear big game leader.
Sufix 6-8 LB Flurorcarbon leader tied with a loop at top and attached to a snap swivel . 10 lb braid of your choice. Pre-tied leaders can be quickly reattached to snap swivel when brake offs occur.
I am using livescope and on my braid I use a swivel, then a piece of 10 pound mono (bass pro brand in dark green), about 10 inches down I add a 8mm bead, then a split shot ( size is to whatever depth they are at, I use #7,5,3) and about 6-8 inches under that I tie my bait with a loop knot.
Beads are a necessity when using LS.
I use new 10 lb hi vis Berkley or Stren 95 % of the time. I fish stained water where visibility is 1-3 feet and heavy cover most of the time on long jig poles.
I hate the line kinks from smaller line plus I can land the big green carp and catfish ( majority of the time)

10 lb test seems like overkill for crappie
When I'm crappie fishing I'm trying to catch crappie, lol. I use 8 lb for bass. If you're regularly catching bass and catfish while crappie fishing, maybe downsize line and get more crappie bites
Braid to the jig for me. I get hung up a lot, Using light wire hooks, 95% of the time the jig can be pulled free. I have a guy on Ebay that makes my jig heads with a particular hook that will open fairly easily and can be bent back into shape at least 30 times or so. Have never lost a big crappie boat swinging, but large catfish are almost always lost.
World record marlin on 4 lb test weighed 573 lbs. What's y'alls take on bent hooks? Do you think a hook becomes compromised once it's been bent? I always bend my jig beads points uo a little for better hookups, but wonder if a hook becomes weakened if it gets all the way bent out then back. I'm going to try the Trilene XT 4 lb mono and see how it works. It has the same diameter as XL at .008. The 6lb XL is .009 which seems a minute difference but will make a big difference I feel in getting bites and detection
I use 10 - 12 lb mono , for leader material. Tyed with a loop knot, so the jig swings freely. you never know when one of these is
in the neighborhood
