Testing Transducers in the Rain and Kaboom!

The Garmin PS22-TR Panoptix transducers are really low quality. I've had 6 fail since they came out. I still use one on one of the boats so a replacement was installed on the Pole and tested in the Jourdan. Boy when the transducers are new they work fantastic but you will be lucky to get 2 years out of one even babying them as much as I do. Anyway I had a big rain cloud sneak up on me so I tucked into a pocket, below full of submerged trash, put the top up, and got a jig overboard. It wasn't long before the bottom fell out of the sky, my Tin Boat got full of rain water, and me thinking I didn't have to do the test today when a massive thump was felt on the jig. I lifted up to find quite a bit of resistance, thought to myself I hooked a Tabby. Well when it didn't feel like a Tabby I got excited. Almost too excited as down deep in the clear water I kept getting a Bucket Mouth Flash, I thought adrenaline was fixin' to flow. Still even with this pig and #4 570 Eagle Claw hooks I did the swing into the boat.

It's longer than the inside of the cooler. A full 17 inches out of Jourdan River. This one is going on the wall.

I own a PS22-TR. They are not the greatest but they most definitely find fish. For dock shooting they are really good. I had mine weld itself to a 7sv last year. Sent pictures to Garmin with their factory installed fuses still intact and Garmin did what Garmin does. 5 days later I had a new pair.

You the man! Nice catch, I have been fishing those waters since 1979. I can tell you way up the river I have only caught a handful that size over all these years. Again Nice. Take pictures of it when you get it mounted as that water should make a beautiful fish mount.

I didn't as it didn't feel like 2+ pounds. I'm thinking 1.80-1.90 pounds. I've caught 3 total this year 17 inches long and the others were skinnier than this fish and the best weighed in on a digital baking scale 1.803 pounds. This one is heavier but it came out of a river instead of a impoundment where I was catching the other big fish over the summer. River fish just don't come this size. All the others got the Ketchn Potato Chip treatment and ate.

No matter whether you catch them in a lake or river a 17" is a true slab. That one is worthy for the wall.

It is in the freezer now. I will thaw very soon to begin the process to putting it on our wall. When I get it thawed I will be taking pictures for later reference material.
