Its Finally Official

Since 2012 I've Been on Social Security Disability. Well, the Soc. Sec. Office sent me a letter informing me that I am officially in the Older Than Dirt Club and am now on Regular Soc. Sec. as I reached the full Retirement age of 66.5 years old, and no longer meet the Disabled Requirements due to my age...Money Benefits don't change. The only thing that really changes is that I'm no longer on SSDI, just S.S..
Yes, I know there's others that have aged more than me, not sayin' nothing bad, just I'm a new member of the club....

It is a milestone for sure.

Doe that mean you can now earn and lose your benefit?

Could do that before. According to Ms. Joyce, she says I can get off my carcus and earn more money now...I said, "You mean get a Job???". I can earn more money on regular soc.sec. and not affect the amount of Soc. Sec. I recieve. Of coarse, you supposed to report all income.

There are ways to supplement your Social Security income by working part-time. Social Security has a limit on this - how much additional income you earn while receiving full SS benefits without being penalized with a check reduction. Contact your local SS office for information. There are lots of us who do this.

Since you are 66.5 then you have been on medicare long enough to not like it too much ..... At first I didn't like it at all, but now I have learned how to take advantage of it .... YOU HAVE TO DEMAND EVERYTHING!!!

Welcome to the older club. Some call it the Golden Years but I’m 72 and I haven’t found any gold yet. But I have meet a lot of nice doctors. Due to being self-employed I started drawing mine at 62 but after I turned 65 I could start getting a normal check again.

If he is at full retirement age he can earn as much money as he wants and social security is not reduced at all. This has been the law for a number of years now.

Correct, but you do still pay social security taxes on your employment earnings, which is 6.2% or 12.4% of earnings.

Congratulations! I am sure you read the addendum attached to your new classification, where it states you buy all responders to your post 3 packs of Road Runners. May I say for all the responders, thank you. (lol) p.s. a date night steak dinner for Ms. Joyce is in order as well. Enjoy!

Because of your age, you now have no limits on how much you can earn. Will not affect your benefits. Hope you don't have to work though. :ThumbsUp

Went on SS at 62 and with that and my retirement and VA disability I'm comfortable!! Welcome to the club!!

One thing that is going to help immensely is IF and when The Navy finally settles my claims on the Camp Lejeune Water Mess. Dad Was stationed there for over a year, and they lived in base housing. Dad passed with Pancreatic Cancer that spread through his liver and every where. Mom died of brain cancer. I was conceived there and carried for 8 of 9 months. everything mom took in, came to me. I have survived colon and kidney cancer. I talked with an individual in JAG, (Navy Lawyer), on the Claims team, and they have and are working on All three claims. Probably wont get all of it at once, but should end up sitting nice. I may actually get my old boat running, or at least a nice replacement. Also looking for a small 2 bedroom house with a basement. Money in the bank from there...

congratulations bro , I been fighting with them as well , seems I can collect a decent amount of money monthly from them and still keep my job , but to do so is going to require something I can't quite figure out . man are they difficult to deal with

Good deal. Eric. This is like Deja vu all over again with the fights that went on for years with agent orange. I don’t want to get on a soapbox, I just want accountability and folks to be compensated for their injury.

"work" definitions vary greatly , I want to work, and draw mine , my job is not terribly bad , it requires a bit of patience and intelligence , but the reward is a decent paycheck and lord knows things are not getting cheaper daily ...as of right now anyway

FRA- Full Retirement Age = you can make as much income as you want and not be penalized on your SS check. Been the law for about 6 years now! I'm a happy member of the club and still work 40 hrs a week.

Yes Sir, exactly. Accountability. When I went to Greece, my dad was healthy. 285 lbs and solid muscle. Bowled 5 night a week, and ran a 24 lane bowling alley on a marine base. Was always busy in some function either at the bowling alley, VFW, AMVETS or American Legion. Less than 6 months later I'm summond home by the Red Cross because he's on his death bed. He weighed less than 80 lbs when I got home. He lasted another week, then passed on 22 December. Mom lasted another 9 yrs before she passed. I had already lost my brother, at 27 yrs old. Then my oldest sister. That left my sister Linda in Fl. and me. Linda passed 2 yrs ago. Now it's me...I have a niece and 5 great nieces, and of coarse Ms Joyce and her 4 that all call me pops. The girls have 2 kids each, and well the boys haven't settled down yet. And all of them are scattered from one coast to the other. And of coarse I have all of you, our C.C family...

Well said, I agree. I enjoy what I do - engaging with engineering students daily, keeps my mind sharp after all these years. I never understood those that have said "It's better than work". "Hope you don't have to work", etc. If folks are so miserable about working, why not find work elsewhere? Do what you want to do, the rewards are great.
